About Me
Currently a master's student in viola da gamba at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague (Netherlands), I offer viola da gamba lessons for all levels.

My background as a musician:

Alongside my practice of early music with different ensembles such as the Denasco trio, which I helped create, I have been accompanying Karine Daviet, a French song singer, on the viola da gamba since 2019. I have been teaching the viola da gamba for 4 years in private lessons but also at the Niort Conservatory during the 2020/2021 year. Having started music as an adult, I have become very aware of the different learning processes. This helps me enormously in my teaching and I always try to find the path that corresponds to the profile of my students.
I build my lessons according to the needs and desires of the student in order to best meet their expectations and objectives.
Education
I discovered the viola da gamba at the age of 23. Passionate about my instrument, I have devoted the last few years to learning it. First with Emmanuelle Guigues, then after a year at the Pôle Supérieur de Poitiers in Matthieu Lusson's class in 2020/2021, I continued my training at the Conservatoire Supérieur de Musique de Barcelona with Emmanuel Balssa as well as in Xavier Puertas' class in violone.
I am now doing a Master's degree at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the Netherlands in the class of Mieneke van der Welden.

Carla
My name is Carla Peña and I come from Barcelona. Since I was a child, music has played an important role in my life. I started learning music when I was 4 years old and cello when at the age of 6. I discovered my love for music and that is what I share with my students.
I have around 15 pupils of all levels and ages and I teach at my own studio (De Constant Rebecquestraat 3) or at your place!
If you are in The Hague area and you want to learn the cello or improve your playing, you are welcome to do lessons with me!

FIRST LESSON:
The first lesson consists of getting to know each other. This is essential to choose the best teaching approach. All the students are unique, that is why I always choose the method that adapts better to your needs. Then, we elaborate a personal plan, depending on your level, expectations, practice time, and taste.

TECHNIQUE:
Learning the proper technique of the instrument is very important to avoid injuries and to be able to express ourselves and perform our musical ideas in a successful way. That is why we learn nice songs in different styles, depending on your taste (from classical to jazz, film music, pop, etc.) and we combine it with cello method books with progressive exercises to improve the cello knowledge.
In the case of young beginners, we also play cello games during the lesson to make the learning experience dynamic and fun! Children can lose attention and get bored very quickly!

Playing together is an essential part of enjoying music. Therefore, the last part of the lesson always consists of playing cello duets and having fun!

ABOUT ME:

I studied my Bachelor in Conservatori Superior del Liceu in Barcelona, with professor Amparo Lacruz. Then, I decided to continue my studies at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague in the class of Michel Strauss and Jan-Ype Nota.
During my studies in The Hague, I did a teaching internship at the Royal Conservatory as a part of their Minor in Music Education. I also taught in several Music Schools during my studies in Spain.
Currently, I teach private students in The Hague and I created a cultural center in The Hague called Pandora Studio.
I play regularly in two chamber music ensembles: Trio Jakob and Azalaïs Quartet.

Hi! I am Elsa, I am 24 and I come from France. I am currently doing a jazz master at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, after obtaining my classical bachelor at the Royal Conservatoire of The Hague.
I have been playing cello for 19 years. Over the years I played in various settings: chamber music (small ensembles like trios, quartet), bands (new music), solo and orchestras such as the Nationaal Jeugdorkest and Jong Metropole (national youth jazz orchestra).
I love to play classical music but also some jazz, funk or pop! I like to play with people, create music together, improvise... And I hope this is something I can also pass on to my students!
Since 6 years I am teaching all kind of people: all ages, all level, in different languages, individual or in groups... So don't be afraid to have a try! I can teach in english and french, and if your level is not fluent we will always find a way to communicate!

Discover the joy of playing the cello and performing with confidence!

Music is more than just playing the right notes—it’s about expression, creativity, and connection. As an experienced cellist and dedicated teacher, I help students of all levels develop their skills in a way that suits their individual needs and goals. Whether you're a beginner discovering the cello for the first time or an advanced player looking to refine your technique and musicality, lessons are tailored to support your journey.

Lessons focus on:
🎵 Building a solid technical foundation while keeping lessons enjoyable and engaging
🎵 Exploring different musical styles, from baroque to contemporary music
🎵 Developing musical expression and confidence in performance
🎵 Adapting to each student’s learning style and personal goals

In addition to cello lessons, I offer coaching sessions for musicians who want to overcome stage fright and enhance their stage presence. Drawing on my background in music therapy and extensive stage experience, I help musicians feel more at ease and express themselves fully on stage. These sessions incorporate breathing exercises to manage performance anxiety, increase focus, and activate a calm, present state through knowledge of the autonomic nervous system.

To further connect with your instrument, we work on free improvisation—a powerful way to tap into creativity and express emotions through music. This not only helps you feel more connected to your instrument but also deepens your overall musical experience.

Whether you're looking to master the cello or gain more confidence as a performer, I’d love to support you on your musical journey! Feel free to reach out for more details.
