About Me

Hello,
My name is Laurence. I have been teaching piano for over 20 years to children and adults of all ages and levels, and I also teach dance in my spare time. Teaching seems to have always been a calling for me.

My teaching is inspired by methods used by dancers, focusing on movement and phrasing. The repertoire I use can range from classical music to jazz and contemporary music. My tastes are very eclectic, and I am always open to students' musical suggestions.

My courses focus on improvisation, interpretation, and composition. I also place great importance on understanding musical language through the harmonic understanding of musical works.

I am demanding but always fair. I teach with a lot of humor and I believe in the benefits of communication between the student, the parents and the teacher.

Education

After graduating from high school with a focus on science and mathematics, I chose to pursue a career in music education. I studied for many years at the conservatory, earning my diploma in musical studies from the conservatories of Aix-en-Provence and then Montpellier. I hold a professional Bac+5 level qualification (Bachelor's and Master's degrees) thanks to my professional studies at the Geneva University of Music, where I completed my program with a Master of Arts in Piano Pedagogy.
In parallel, I practice partner dancing and regularly participate in competitions in Europe and the United States.

I am a singing teacher, a student of lyrical singing at the Geneva Conservatory of Music since the age of nine and of modern singing at the Institute of Complete Vocal Education in Geneva since 2009.

I offer private and group lessons at home (between Geneva and Thonon). I can also welcome students to their homes in Veigy.
I teach in English or in English.

I guide the student through the initiation to singing and the establishment of reflexes essential to their practice. Generally speaking, these points include body/facial posture, breathing, accuracy, and rhythm. I have been immersed in music, and particularly the piano, for over 40 years. I was trained by concert professors, who were themselves trained by the greatest (my own professor's piano teacher was taught by Alfred Cortot). I learned music theory at the Conservatoire and harmony and counterpoint at the HEM in Geneva. At the same time, I have a Bachelor's degree in Musicology from the Université des Lettres de Genève.
