Rebetiko is a Greek urban musical tradition that developed in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Closely connected to the social life of the time, its songs speak of love, poverty, migration, marginalization, prison, drugs and the everyday realities of urban life. It has a distinctive musical and vocal language, with characteristic rhythms, phrasing and ornamentation.

In these lessons, you will explore authentic Rebetiko repertoire while working on vocal style, phrasing, rhythm, ornamentation and interpretation. No knowledge of Greek is required; pronunciation and transliterated lyrics are provided when needed.
Extra information
No knowledge of Greek or music notation is required. Lessons are open to all levels. For the best vocal experience, avoid a heavy meal immediately before the lesson and have some water available.
