About Me
Full cello teacher at the Brest CRR. After obtaining the First Prize in 2003 at the prestigious international Young Concert Artists competition in New York, Romanian cellist Laura's career took off thanks to this worldwide recognition. The press described her as "a true virtuoso, whose sounds, flowing from her instrument as from a source, are full of color and drama" (New York Times). The artist “might as well be a soprano. She embraces the cello as an extension of her own body, thus personifying the lyricism specific to an instrument so close to the human voice ”(Washington Post). The same year, she also won the First Prize of the International Arturo Bonucci Competition in Rome: "an artist with exceptional musical intuition, endowed with an accomplished technique ..." (La Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno).
Laura was born in Bucharest in 1980. She began studying the cello at the age of 10, preparing for the “Georges Enesco” Music High School in Bucharest with teachers Constantin Gheorghiu and Dan Totan. From 1999 to 2004, she studied at the University of Music in Bucharest with Marin Cazacu and Vasile Tugui. From 2004 to 2007, she completed her master's degree at the Hochschule für Musik Köln, in the class of Professor Frans Helmerson. Throughout her years, she has participated in numerous masterclasses in Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands and Romania.

As a soloist Laura made her debut on the stage of the Berlin Philharmonic in 2006, in Shostakovich's 1st Concerto for Cello and Orchestra with the Berliner Sinfoniker, under the direction of James Gaffigan. “Laura gave a reading of the first cello concerto, focused on developing her own voice, but at the same time with a great diversity of timbre and articulation. In the slow movement, this was particularly evident, the artist has succeeded in brilliantly developing popular dance which emerges almost instantly from the preceding elements ”(Berliner Zeitung). She has performed as a soloist with a number of important orchestras: Bari Symphony Orchestra, Berlin Chamber Orchestra (Rheigau Festival), "George Enescu" Philharmonic in Bucharest, Romanian Radio Orchestra, Shanghai Philharmonic, Santander Orchestra, Ohio Symphony Orchestra, North Carolina Symphony Orchestra, concertos by Shostakovich, Dvorak, Vieru, Ph. E. Bach or Saint-Saens, as well as Rococo Variations by Tchaikovski.
