Are you studying German at school, or interested in picking up a new language? Are your teacher's explanations of grammar simply too convoluted? or do you feel the prospect of learning German by yourself is quite daunting? No need to worry! I'm Alex, and I have 7 years of experience studying the German language. In this class, I will be able to provide you with assistance with all things German, tailored to your personal requests. Whether you're learning your first words in the language, or have reached a higher level of linguistic ability and just want some extra support, I can give you the help you need to reach an A-level/end of high school standard of German.
I can teach lessons in a wide variety of aspects of German, such as grammar, writing, speaking, and vocabulary. With my experience in teaching younger students at King Edward VI Grammar School, Chelmsford for several years, I am known for being a friendly, approachable, and patient tutor, always happy to see my tutees happy! Since I hold an offer to study Modern and Medieval Languages (German and Russian) at the University of Cambridge, I'm also qualified to advise students who are looking at applying to Oxbridge for language-related courses.

In the case of lessons by video call, I can use Zoom, Skype, or Microsoft Teams. If you have a preference on which program you'd like to use, please let me know - my default choice is Zoom. About Me

Hello! I'm Alex, and I'm a tutor from Essex, UK. I've been captivated by languages from a young age, and later on in life, I discovered that I find great joy and satisfaction in teaching others, hence my decision to begin tutoring. I began by providing supplementary teaching to younger students at my school, but I also have experience of private one-on-one tutoring.

In my lessons, we can take the work at as slow or fast a pace as suits you. I'll help you to deconstruct the finer details of language and grammar - with a clear, concise and comprehensive explanation of a concept, you'll soon find yourself able to apply it in many contexts! I can support you with conversation practice, grammar exercises, or even stylistic analysis in German. Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.
