About Me

I am a very relaxed person and can make you feel very comfortable learning and playing. I put things into simple terms so that the method of playing gives you confidence and therefore you learn and create more easily. I teach the basics of routes, chords, harmony. I teach you tricks of the trade on how to create film score music and also how to play by feeling the music so that you get out of the habit of stop-start traditional learning. Today I have over 25 keyboards together with other equipment and I also have my own custom-built set up that I constructed myself again because people told me it can't be done made me build this set up even more. How my set up is constructed allows you to play a full orchestra on one 88 key workstation namely a Korg T1 which is the exact same keyboard used by Vangelis (Chariots of fire). This allows me to play 14 different sounds from other instruments at the same time if required. This is the system that reduces the recording track after track after track. This is the system that in my opinion is a one-off and I invite you to learn and play.

I started playing the piano when I was 11 went to piano lessons and absolutely hated it. I hated the traditional you must sit like this, your hands must be like this, you must read of the sheet. I wanted a more relaxed let me do what I want the attitude of playing and today I do not play from sheet music simply because I can't read sheet music. Don't forget a tremendous amount of top artists cannot read sheet music. My education was constantly playing learning from other artists and getting things like the timing correct, the harmony correct. If you love doing something you will get it right but you must find your own method, not somebody else’s.

Do not copy anyone. Learn from people yes but don't copy.

My experience came from playing anything and everywhere and eventually owning my own keyboard which was a JEN 1000. My dream synthesizer was a Yamaha DX7 made famous by many a band however the price ticket was totally out of my league. Today I have over 25 keyboards together with other equipment and I also have my own custom built set up that I constructed myself again because people told me it can't be done made me build this set up even more. I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard.

My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student.

Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you.

A bit about me:

Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.
