Hi there!

My name is Tess and I am an Australian/American Clarinettist currently studying my Master in Clarinet at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles but I live in Antwerp. I have been playing Clarinet for 15 years and have my Bachelor of Music and Bachelor of Music (Honours) from the Melbourne Conservatorium in Melbourne, Australia, and my Cycle Préparatoire à l’Enseignement Supérieur (CPES) from the Conservatoire de Bordeaux in Bordeaux, France. I love teaching and I want to make teaching students a part of my developing professional career. I have had the privilege of teaching Clarinet students both at a private music school and a Primary/High School both in Australia. I have taught students primarily between the ages of 8 to 17 but I have taught mature age students as well! I am very flexible with where I teach and I have experience teaching students online too due to the Pandemic which makes me very flexible and workable with your schedule. I look forward to meeting any new students and starting or continuing their journey with Clarinet!

About Me
I have taught students both at a Private Music School and at a Primary/High School in Australia. At both institutions I taught students who were brand new to music or to the Clarinet specifically and students who had had some training before. Through my own experience learning music with my teachers I have developed my own confidence with teaching by understanding and asking myself "how would I like to be taught?". When I give feedback I always make sure that the positives of the students playing is being mentioned to them first and that from there we can point out where they can improve and make other parts of their playing just as good and how we can do that. I want to be able to listen to the student on their own without me playing with them at first so I can best hear how the student is going, however I will then play along with them occasionally or demonstrate for them so they can learn by listening. Having conversations about learning and music to me can be just as important as the actual playing, so I endeavour to as my students many questions within the lesson: how they think they played, how they felt when they played, where their tongue was on the reed, what to they think this piece's mood is, etc. Every student is different and I am absolutely all about making my lessons fit for the student and their personality.
