About Me

Hello, I'm Salma. I am an educationalist, teacher and tutor with over ten years experience tutoring students through school examinations and to academic success.

As an Ofsted-graded 'outstanding' teacher I have lead Literacy and Science teams, helped create in-school curriculums and trained teachers and staff in effective Literacy lessons, behaviour management and creativity in the classroom.

I have tutored many children and teenagers, helping them at different stages of their schooling. From teaching Reading to underachieving year 1 children, to supporting secondary school students in their Math and Science examinations, I bring with me the latest resources in education and techniques to ensure success.

Having moved around quite a bit, I understand the stress students undergo adapting to new schooling systems. I enjoy working privately with students to build their confidence. I previously was a primary school teacher of all subjects (Grades 1&2) for a private international school in Dubai. I am familiar with international school curriculum and challenges faced by students when moving to a new country.

I have extensive experience with students of all learning levels. I have been privately tutoring for over 10 years now. English is my first language (I am American). I also have experience tutoring at a higher age (as well as university level). I am an excellent writer, editor, and researcher and work part time in UVA's graduate school in the sociology department. I completed my MSc at UVA and undergraduate at UCLA.

Currently, the majority of my students are primary school students who attend the British school or ISA. However, I teach a large number of international school students or older students. I also tutor many students, of various ages, in the Dutch schooling system. I am very comfortable with international school curriculums, however, I also have a good grasp on the Dutch schooling system. This class aims to equip the student with a hands on knowledge regarding design. Design is not merely trends and style there is a whole concept and working behind it. You will get a hands on grip on research, mood board, pattern, draping, textile and design communication. If needed an advanced course of photoshop can be given to create technicals.

In this class, I am going to teach you how to speak English and/or Italian like a native speakers, starting from the sounds of the language to their grammar and syntax. We are going to practice your conversation skills and work on your fluency to then focus on the area of vocabulary you are most interested in according to the circumstances. I am a native Italian speaker who lived in the U.K. for over a year. I have a Bachelor’s degree in languages, foreign literatures and techniques of interpreting and translation as well as a C1 proficiency Cambridge certification. I am currently studying English Linguistics, literature and pedagogy (MA) at the University of Amsterdam. I have several collaboration with Cambridge associated schools and I personally help my pupils get their own certification based on their level, if they wish to have one.
