I have been tutoring students for over 10 years at various levels, with a focus on middle and high school students. Many of my students have been preparing for exams such as IB, AP, A-level, and IGCSE. I hold several relevant degrees, including a PhD and MSc in Financial Justice from the University of Amsterdam, as well as a BS and MS in Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania (an Ivy League institution). While my main area of expertise is math (ranging from simple arithmetic to advanced university-level calculus), I have also assisted students in preparing for high school level Chemistry and Economics exams. My name is Shak. I am 21 years old and currently studying at the Conservatory of Amsterdam. I've been playing different instruments for as long as I can remember and I've mainly started to focus on bass guitar. I also play in several bands and I have a lot of experience with the instrument on stage or in the studio. I also know a lot about everything that has to do with theory, so I make a lesson plan that is completely tailored to what you want to do! Lessons can take place at my home or at school. I learned a lot in helping. One of these things is that children learn faster through play and/or music. As a result, I have put together a special program to give children a good start in their language skills, or to help them improve them. Before the lesson starts, we will see how far developed the child is. When I have established that, we will first spend half an hour talking words based on pictures. The last hour is music central. We will choose a song together (children's songs) and learn it together. The more progress, the more difficult (language area) the songs will become.

I hold a PhD degree in French Literature from Sorbonne University and I've been teaching French and English since 2013. During my class, you will learn how to communicate effectively - and in order to speak, you'll need to practice! I have a passion for French culture, literature, music, film and theatre, and I believe that it's through culture and experiencing the language directly in everyday life that you really immerse yourself in a language. Apart from this, I work as a tour guide specialised in French medieval architecture and a week-end trip to Paris (sightseeing included!) can be planned during the course to immerse in French language, cinema, food and beautiful Parisian museums.
