Do you want to learn to play chess better? Personal chess lessons for youth and adults – KNSB ±2100

Do you want to learn to play chess better? Personal chess lessons for youth and adults – KNSB ±2100

Do you want to improve your chess skills, but aren't sure how to go about it? Or do you want to strengthen your child in a fun and effective way? I give personal chess lessons to beginners, juniors, and advanced players. With a KNSB rating of approximately 2100 and chess experience since the age of 6, I help students not only to find better moves, but above all to understand why a move is right or wrong. A higher rating does not automatically mean that someone is the best coach for every level. Especially for players between approximately 1000 and 1900, I find it important to explain chess ideas clearly, understandably, and practically. My goal is for you to be able to actually apply the knowledge you have learned independently during your own games. During the lessons, we can work on, among other things: - Tactics and combinations - Developing strategies and plans - Openings and typical middlegame ideas - Party analyses - Identifying errors and areas for improvement - Learning to think and make decisions independently The lessons are fully tailored to your level and personal goals. Whether you are just starting out, want to improve as a club player, or are serious about growing towards 1800/2000: together we will look at what you need to take the next step. The lessons can be given online or at your home. Feel free to contact me to discuss exactly what you would like to improve.

Customized English tutoring: University, HBO, MBO, Secondary school. Exam preparation. GMAT. TOEFL.

Customized English tutoring: University, HBO, MBO, Secondary school. Exam preparation. GMAT. TOEFL.

classes I offer various types of lessons, fully tailored to your level and learning style. Whether you want to improve your speaking, prepare for an exam, or simply gain more confidence, we'll create a plan together that suits you. Every lesson focuses on practical language use and, above all, speaking a lot. Study guidance/Tutoring English doesn't have to be a stumbling block. With a little extra help, you can make much faster progress. In my coaching, I work with students from university (Master's and Bachelor's), universities of applied sciences, intermediate vocational education (MBO), pre-university education (VWO), senior general secondary education (HAVO), and pre-vocational secondary education (VMBO) who face challenges with grammar, reading, listening, writing, and speaking. We address exactly where you struggle—so you truly understand the material and get better grades. Exam preparation Prepare for your final English exam (VMBO, HAVO, or VWO) with confidence. Together, we'll practice past exams, discuss common mistakes, and I'll teach you smart strategies to better understand texts and formulate sharper answers. This way, you'll know exactly what to expect and you'll feel confident about your exam. To speak Many people know the rules of English quite well, but find it difficult to translate that knowledge into a fluent conversation. In my lessons, you'll practice exactly that. We'll work on pronunciation, sentence structure, and fluency, but above all, on having the courage to speak. With targeted feedback, I'll help you speak English with greater ease and confidence—in any situation. Pronunciation Want your English to sound more natural? With a few practical adjustments, you can significantly improve your pronunciation and intonation. In these lessons, you'll learn how to form sounds correctly, use natural rhythm, and avoid typical "Dutch" mistakes. You'll soon notice that your English sounds much more natural. Grammar Once you understand how it works, English actually becomes much easier. In my lessons, you'll learn the rules in a comprehensible way and immediately apply them in conversations and exercises. This way, you'll learn not only what's correct, but also why—and that makes all the difference in how natural your English sounds.

ESL, ESL for expat parents, ESL in the Netherlands

ESL, ESL for expat parents, ESL in the Netherlands

I’m a native English speaker from the US and a former international school teacher with over eight years of private tutoring experience in Amsterdam. I teach adults and children, from complete beginners to people who already speak English but want to feel more comfortable using it. I’ve also completed additional training in teaching English as a second language. I especially enjoy teaching adults. You might want to feel more comfortable speaking with your child’s teachers, meeting new people, making appointments or using English at work. We’ll talk about what you need English for and build our lessons around that, with time for conversation as well as grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation and writing. Having moved countries myself, I understand how tiring it can be to settle somewhere new when everyday conversations take extra effort. Lessons are a place to practise, ask questions and work through things you find difficult without feeling rushed. You’re welcome to bring along an email you need to write, something you’ve heard but didn’t understand, or a situation you’d like to practise for. I’m also happy to share what I’ve learned from living in Amsterdam over the years. For children and teenagers, I combine English teaching with their schoolwork, helping them develop the language they need to understand lessons, complete assignments and participate in class. I’ve worked with students in Dutch, British and other international schools, and have particular experience supporting children who are new to learning in English. I also specialise in working with students with ADHD and other learning differences. Before moving to Amsterdam, I taught Grades 1 and 2 at the International School of Choueifat in Dubai. Alongside tutoring, I now work as a writer and editor. I hold a BA from UCLA and an MSc from the University of Amsterdam. Lessons are available in person in Amsterdam or online. Feel free to send me a message about your current level and what you’d like help with!

Private Piano Lessons: Classical and Jazz, Pop Performance/Theory

Private Piano Lessons: Classical and Jazz, Pop Performance/Theory

The lessons will delve into both the technical and musical aspects of piano playing, theory, reading music, harmony, ear training, technique, pedagogy and more. My aim is to equip students to understand different music styles, build confidence, discover their unique voice and continue their musical journey independently. As Thelonious Monk said, the piano ain’t got no wrong notes. I'm passionate about traversing genres since I have studied both jazz and classical to a high level, making this class perfect for creative pianists and composers who want to go beyond reading music off a piece of paper. Trinity/ABRSM curriculum upto Grade 8, can also be optionally included. Teaching effective practice methods is a priority, ensuring students progress confidently and without leaning on me. Please note, I only teach in person to maintain high standards of guidance in technique. This is not possible via video conferencing. Since everyone asks: yes, I did study at Berklee College of Music as an undergraduate for some time, and I do help students out with their audition preparation for various music colleges! Currently, my students are between 14 and 74 years old— I believe that it’s never too late or too early to begin your musical journey. I look forward to your requests and have two vacant spots remaining in my roster for Winter 2025. Book now!

“ Haralambie has provided incredible support throughout our sessions in a variety of challenging areas of mathematics. The breadth of Haralambie's expertise is evident in the many ways he can demonstrate the idea. I have benefitted from Haralambie's clarity in showing the relevance of specific theorems and how they connect with upcoming material. I have learned a lot from our sessions and he marries the conceptual gaps that come up by explaining the ideas and properties very well. Haralambie provides guidance, patience, and context to the topics covered in subjects that are otherwise disorienting. We work together to hammer out a conceptual stump. My learning experience with Haralambie is fun and engaging, and his input and guidance has been incredibly helpful in elucidating areas that I have missed which improves my approach to future problems. ”

“ Yuvraj is a wonderful teacher! I've been studying piano for half a year with him, and the progress never stops. He teaches everything that you need to be a pianist, including the technique, classical theory, jazz theory, as well as how to find good new songs. Within the few months that I've had him, he quickly took me from having zero practical music knowledge to being able to read and play Trinity grade 3 songs on my own. Yuvraj always tries to make piano something fun and enjoyable, rather than just another annoying thing to grind all the time. This is the guy for those who want to learn with a relaxed, slow and steady attitude. Even better if you're down to challenge yourself with new, unconventional music that you might not expect. While I don't really have anything to compare him to, I am very happy learning piano with Yuvraj. ”

“ Tom had given economie lessen to both my children that are on the middle bar school. My kids were lost, going very bad specially in economie and with limited understanding at school lessons. I decided to hire Tom, was difficult to find someone that give lessons to teenagers and that was knowledged. Tom has been with us the last months, my kids began understanding better, getting the point and scoring better at school. Sometimes I could overhear the online lessons or even 'live lessons' when he came home. Tom is great, with lots of patience, straight to the point, know how to explain, never lose the temper. We are very happy and will certainly recommend him. He is very professional and can motivate the students in a very good way. Thanks Tom! ”
