Raffaele - SchaarbeekC$75
Trusted teacher: Basically, I love teaching Italian and Violin! I do it with passion, love, and putting all my self in it. I shall guarantee professionalism, high teaching level and friendly attitude. Italian is the language of Opera and the fashion: understanding the language helps people to get deeper in the Italian culture and to enjoy literature, arts, music and all the most beautiful cities in Italy. My method consists in using grammar books to build solid skills but also reading original samples from Italian newspapers and books, making funny activities and also meeting Italian speakers in Bruxelles to consolidate practical skills of my students. I will encourage students to practise Italian with the new technology and have fun through listening to lovely Italian popular song, arias from Italian Opera or cartoons for children of amateurs (for more details, do not hesitate to contact me). Violin, solfège. I studied Master of Arts in Violin in London at the Royal Academy of Music. As violinist and musician, I think it is fundamental for a student of music to understand their bodies in order to feel the inner voice of themselves. I studied Alexander technique so in my teaching I always talk about relaxing, feeling the right tensions and avoiding the not-useful ones. I will be happy to teach violin to everyone who needs to improve musicality, technique, self-consciousness or simply who like to enjoy violin. As a violinst, I usually play with ensemble or in chamber music projects across the Europe. Basically I play historical instrument but I fell equally at home on the modern violin ( for more details and cv, do not hesitate to contact me). I teach English as well. Group language lessons(max 3 people) are warmly welcome. Discounts apply.

Francisco - BrusselsC$47
Trusted teacher: Portuguese is part of the family of Latin languages, including Ibero-Romance languages, such as Spanish (or "Castilian"), Catalan and Galician. His accent is closer to Catalan and Galician (which shares the same roots) and the pronunciation of certain words has some peculiarities: the letter ç (with the cedilla) is used before the "a", the "o" and the "u" (as in French); the circumflex accent is used on the vowels for the pronunciation of the closed vowels ("â" as Câmara, "ê" as pêssego - and as "summer" - and "ô" as avô - and as "eau"); the acute accent (') is used for the pronunciation of open vowels (the grave accent is rarely used), such as' á' (água), 'é' (p- or 'head') and 'ó' ( as mó); the tilde (~) is used on the letters ã (as mãe or pão) and õ (as põe) to indicate a nasal pronunciation of these vowels; Portuguese uses many oral diphthongs, such as "ai" (pai), "ei" (as lei), "oi" (as boi), "ui" (as Rui), and "iu" (as viu); the letter "s" is pronounced like "ch" at the end of the words (as francés or pessoas) or before a consonant (as estar or esperança). When the letter "s" is at the beginning of the words (like sapo) or in case of double consonant (like passado), it is pronounced like the French word "sac". If the letter "s" is between two vowels (like casa) it is pronounced like the letter "z" (like "zero"). Portuguese has two official standards: the Portuguese standard and the Brazilian standard (no, the "Brazilian" does not exist!). Each official standard has differences in emphasis (more open in Brazil than in Portugal), vocabulary and some syntactic structures. In addition to these two official standards, Portuguese also has a great variety of accents and a great wealth of vocabulary, especially in Portuguese-speaking African countries, as well as in Asia or Oceania.

Trusted teacher: Clawhammer is a traditional American banjo technique rooted in the old-time music of the Appalachian Mountains. While closely tied to this repertoire, it also lends itself beautifully to contemporary styles such as folk, country, and even pop. This style of playing is ideal for accompanying vocals or performing melodies enriched with rhythmic drive, drones, and chordal textures. No prior musical knowledge is required. The learning process is based on listening, watching, and imitating, without the use of written notation or tablature. This oral approach helps develop musical memory, independence, and the ability to quickly recall and play tunes—whether on your own or during jam sessions. The course focuses on learning songs and instrumental tunes from the old-time repertoire. Some pieces may be offered in simplified versions for beginners. More advanced players will have the opportunity to explore complex techniques such as drop thumb, alternate string pull-off, Galax lick, and rhythmic variations that go beyond the classic bum-ditty pattern. The main goal is to provide you with the musical and technical foundation you need to continue learning on your own. Depending on interest, the course may also include an introduction to the Two-Finger style (thumb lead, index lead, mix lead). This technique, somewhat similar to up-picking or bluegrass banjo, offers an interesting alternative for playing old-time melodies. Important: A 5-string banjo (with a short fifth string, or drone string) is required. This repertoire and these techniques cannot be played on a 4- or 6-string banjo.

So far I have had really excellent lessons with François. For me the best is having someone to talk with and using my French, and he's always helpful in advising on vocab and phrasing.
