As an experienced English Language Arts (ELA) tutor, I offer personalized instruction designed to strengthen reading, writing, speaking, and critical thinking skills for students in grades 4 through 12. My approach is student-centered, with lessons tailored to each learner’s unique strengths, challenges, and academic goals. Whether your student needs help improving reading comprehension, mastering essay structure, expanding vocabulary, or preparing for standardized tests, I provide targeted support in a positive and engaging environment. I emphasize the development of analytical skills by guiding students through a variety of texts—literature, nonfiction, poetry, and informational articles—while encouraging thoughtful discussion and evidence-based interpretation. In writing instruction, I focus on helping students craft clear, coherent, and compelling pieces across genres, from persuasive essays to literary analyses and creative narratives. Sessions may include grammar and mechanics instruction, vocabulary development, research skills, and support with school assignments or enrichment activities. I also integrate strategies for organization, time management, and test-taking when needed. My ultimate goal is to build confidence and independence, equipping students with the tools they need to succeed not just in ELA, but across all areas of study. With a supportive and results-driven approach, I strive to make learning meaningful and enjoyable for every student. Let’s work together to unlock your student’s full potential in ELA.

Teaching has been a passion of mine for as long as I can remember. I first started tutoring French and Spanish to the younger years when I was in my second year of Sixth Form college in the UK at the age of 16. My love for helping people to expand their knowledge and communication in a language only kept developing from that moment. I am Lizzie, from London, I am 22 years old and I have a BA Honors in Modern Languages, during which I completed a teaching module in my last year of university and I taught English abroad in France and Argentina in my third year. I have experience in teaching all ages, from 3 to 60! I am currently a part-time English teacher with the British Council in a university in Bogota, Colombia. I only have positive feedback from my students and their parents and this success is reflected in their improving grades at school. I also work with people with special learning needs in my classes and adapt the classes as needed. I always bring fun as well as productivity to my lessons, ensuring they are engaging and cater to the needs and preferences of each student. I am patient, enthusiastic and out-going, I believe there is no such thing as a silly question! My teaching methods include planning but adaptability, if a student on the spot says they want to work on something particular, I happily improvise and ensure they gain understanding on said topic. I like to maintain a balance of vocabulary and grammar, and mainly I focus on conversation and listening comprehension, as this is real life! I am a very creative person, I love art, music and dance. I love to explore new cultures and travel too.
