Hi, my name is Sam. Do you know many students cant hear music as good as they could read music? No, you dont have to be born with perfect pitch to hear the notes in melodies and harmonies in the music. If you could tell red from orange, blue from indigo, as long as you are not "color-blind" to music (we call tone-deaf), then you can "hear" music too! With the right training of course! Wish to play songs like your favorite Youtubers playing beautiful covers within hours of a new hit single release? Then this class is for you! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Listen & Play Piano - Unlike the conventional "classical" method, this "modern approach" lesson, you'll learn to identify melodies, recognize chords, play different accompaniment styles, improvise (advanced level), and create your own personal style (advanced level). Lessons include: 1. Active Aural Training This is not the usual "classical exam format" aural exercises but practical aural techniques I've learned from my years of stage performance. 2. Chords You will learn chord theory on harmonizing the melody and how to identify them just by listening to music. 3. Contemporary Accompaniment styles This includes my bread-and-butter accompaniment styles I use in playing solo piano or keyboard in a band, and the knowledge I've accumulated over the past 18 years playing in church and band. 4. Music Theory on Pop Music Music theory provides a systematic guide to your hearing so you'll understand what you heard and can even predict the harmony movement in most pop music.

I specialize in catering to a diverse spectrum of learners, ranging from novices to advanced students seeking certification at esteemed conservatories, as well as enthusiasts of all ages. My pedagogical approach underscores the fundamental importance of literacy in musical notation, which I consider analogous to mastering an additional language. Proficiency in reading music is regarded as a lifelong asset akin to riding a bicycle, which, once acquired, endures indefinitely. Central to my instruction is the cultivation of proper hand, arm, and body positioning at the piano, alongside the inculcation of core principles in piano technique. This encompasses meticulous attention to the percussive action of the fingers and the nuanced distribution of weight. Moreover, I prioritize fostering a nuanced comprehension of musical language, facilitating the expressive manifestation of individuality through the medium of the keyboard. I guide students in the exploration of tactile sensitivity and the cultivation of familiarity with a diverse repertoire of piano compositions."
