Trusted teacher: Welcome to my piano teaching studio! I am a professional pianist offering private piano and theory lessons for students of all levels. As a pianist with over 14 years of teaching experience in Europe and the USA, as well as over 23 years of playing/performing, I enjoy motivating my students with music of their own preferred style and interest, whether that be classical or contemporary. My main goal is to promote a positive experience and love for music-making during the learning process. If the student is interested in a more structured approach, I guide preparation for grades 1-8 of the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) piano and music theory exams where my students consistently receive highest marks. I also have successful experience preparing students for conservatory entrance auditions, masterclasses, and competitions in the Europe, the USA, India, and Canada. We have class concerts at Pianos Maene for interested students twice per year. I am happy to provide either a more relaxed or a serious approach to learning piano, we simply need to discuss the personal goals and preferences of each student. My own studies are as follows: I have obtained two postgraduate performance degrees at the Royal Conservatory of Antwerp: "Concertsoloist" in Piano Performance and "Chamber Music” (under the guidance of esteemed professor Sergei Edelmann). Prior to this, I received my Bachelor and Masters degrees in Piano Performance/Music from the University of Minnesota - Minneapolis (with Prof. Lydia Artymiw) and Texas Christian University, Fort Worth (with Dr. Tamas Ungar). My experience includes collaboration with many different instrumentalists and singers, performing as a soloist and collaborative member in several orchestras, and receiving top prizes in several competitions. While maintaining my performance and recording career in Belgium at present, I am developing my private music studio in central Antwerp and look forward to meeting new students.

What makes Baroque music different from Romantic? How did Mozart, Beethoven, and Stravinsky change the sound of the world? In this course, we’ll explore the major eras of Western classical music, from the ornate harmonies of the Baroque to the bold, theory-breaking works of the 20th century. Each lesson focuses on a different time period or movement, introducing key composers, musical styles, and the historical and cultural forces that shaped the sound of each era. This class is designed to be accessible and engaging, NOT theory heavy. No formal music training is required. We’ll focus on listening, storytelling, and historical context, helping you connect with music as both an art form and a reflection of its time. We’ll explore each period using musical excerpts, visual art, cultural history, and key ideas — with room for discussion, questions, and student interests. Topics Included: - Baroque Era: Bach, Vivaldi, sacred music, ornamentation, court life - Classical Era: Mozart, Haydn, balance, Enlightenment ideals - Romantic Era: Beethoven, Chopin, nationalism, emotion, revolution - Impressionism & Modernism: Debussy, Stravinsky, fragmentation, innovation - 20th Century and Beyond: Minimalism, film scores, electronic music, global voices Learning Goals: - How to identify musical styles and characteristics by era - Key composers and the cultural movements they reflected - How to listen critically and understand music’s relationship to its time - Confidence discussing music without needing formal training or theory background This class is perfect for music students, history lovers, or anyone curious about the evolution of classical music — and the stories it tells.

Hi! I’m Didac Barber, a professional concert pianist and experienced teacher from Spain, now based in the Netherlands. I hold a Master’s in Piano Performance from The Hartt School (USA) and trained at ESMUC Barcelona, studying with top international pianists like Adolf Pla and Luiz de Moura Castro. I’ve performed across Europe, the U.S., and Asia, and have taught piano for over 15 years — in conservatories, private studios, and internationally online. My passion lies not only in performance but in helping students discover what they are capable of. I’m dedicated, empathetic, and patient — and I want you to enjoy your learning journey as much as I do sharing it. Each student is different, and so are my lessons. Whether you're just starting out or already preparing for auditions or performances, I’ll adapt the lesson to your goals, challenges, and musical taste. We can work, all in a way that feels personal and motivating, on: * Technique and sound production * Repertoire (classical, contemporary, film music, etc.) * Musical expression and interpretation * Performance preparation (concerts, exams, auditions) * Practice strategies and confidence-building I’m here to help you be the best pianist you can be, whether that means mastering Bach or finally playing your favorite piece with confidence. Lessons are online, and taught in English, Spanish, or Catalan. In-person lessons will also be available in Amsterdam from January 2026. Feel free to message me if you have any questions. I’d love to hear about your musical goals and help you reach them. Let’s make music together! — Didac 🎶

Trusted teacher: I teach online via Zoom, using software which allows you to see the exact keys I'm playing on my keyboard. My teaching method is to focus on whatever type of music the student loves most, and to build from there. I believe that many people give up their dream of playing an instrument simply because they aren't inspired enough, so my goal is to instill a love for music, whatever that means personally for each individual student. Everyone learns differently and has their own pace and rhythm. I have some students who like to have a regular weekly or biweekly lesson, and others who just get in touch once in a while when they have digested the previous lesson and feel ready to build on it. Whatever the case, I am very flexible and we can figure out what works best for you. A bit about me: Originally honing my skills on the British jazz scene and holding residencies in restaurants and bars around the country, I then went on to tour the world playing on cruise ships, hotels and festivals. I returned to London to complete my master's in jazz piano at the Guildhall School of Music, and during this time performed regularly at Ronnie Scotts, The Vortex and many other venues across the UK. I then spent two years in South America learning about salsa and Cuban music. I now mainly work as a transcriber, writing sheet music for all instruments including full Big Band scores. I have also worked extensively in musical theatre, most recently as musical director for 'Jersey Boys', and on the first US national tour of 'Summer: the Donna Summer Musical'. The video shown below is from my stint playing and directing 'After Midnight', a show set to the music of the Duke Ellington Big Band.

I had previously played some classical for a few years, but was looking to learn jazz piano and improvisation as well. For this David is ideal, as he studied both as a classical and jazz musician, and has a deep understanding of each. About half the lessons we focus on jazz improvisation. During the lessons I improvise over a few songs, and each session he gives feedback, while adding a new layer of difficulty. We've also worked a lot on rhythm, which has really helped me bridge the gap between classical and jazz. We spent a few lessons on classical pieces as well, to refine technique and musicality. My playing feels much more fluid and musical already, and he's really helpful/knowledgeable with the details. Also, on the weeks where I did have not had much time to practice, we do a more (jazz) theory oriented lesson, which has also helped alot with my improvisation. Overall, I only have positive things to say about the lessons! David is a very easy-going teacher, and from the first lesson I felt very comfortable asking him questions. He's very versatile as well, and easily adapts the lesson according to what suits us best that week.

Mary has been great in our interactions. At the moment, we are meeting twice a week for an hour each session. She started with a class in which we got to know each other and she listen to my goals. Then, she prepared exercises and lessons specially designed to help me reach those goals with practice and also prepared lessons to help me continue growing as a guitar player. Moreover, she goes often out of her way to get songs challenging to my level, but that are doable with enough practice. In all, I am enjoying quite a lot of our classes and I am always looking forward to them.

I had my first lesson today and I was immediately struck with the feeling that I am in the presence of a maestro in Piano playing, a professor in teaching and an extremely patient pedagogue. It was like Lydia knew me for years and instantaneously detected my strengths and my weaknesses in my piano playing and practice. I am an adult student and I highly recommend Lydia for all ages and all levels. An exceptional teacher that provides and exceptional lesson experience.
