Music Theory helps you understand the undercurrents of all Western music and gives you the ability to analyse, create and enjoy music in more versatile and deep way. I'm a graduated musician (Helsinki Pop & Jazz Conservatory) and musicologist (MA, University of Helsinki) and I teach Western classical and jazz theory. Students from beginners to advanced are welcome! My classes are customised for each student based on their skill level and expected outcome. Theory lessons can be shaped to support composing/arranging or practicing an instrument. Classes can also be taught using Logic Pro, while enjoying the additional bonus of learning to use one of the most renowned DAW's. My personal approach to music theory is holistic, so with me you will be able to go deeper into music theory than just learning the rules by heart. I also teach electric bass!

I hold a Master’s degree in Music Performance and work professionally as a saxophonist, performing and recording internationally across a wide range of musical styles. Ik ben Mark, pianist en student aan Conservatorium Maastricht. In 2026 werd ik toegelaten tot zowel Berklee College of Music (VS) als Conservatorium Maastricht, waar ik ervoor koos mijn studie voort te zetten. Ik geef pianolessen aan leerlingen van alle leeftijden en niveaus. Tijdens de lessen werken we aan pianotechniek, muzikaliteit, improvisatie, gehoortraining en muziektheorie, altijd afgestemd op jouw persoonlijke doelen en muzikale interesses. Je kunt kiezen voor klassieke piano, jazz, improvisatie of een combinatie hiervan. Of je nu helemaal vanaf het begin begint, al ervaring hebt of je voorbereidt op een toelatingsexamen of conservatoriumstudie, ik pas de lessen aan jouw niveau en doelen aan. Mijn lessen zijn persoonlijk, gestructureerd en ontspannen. Mijn doel is niet alleen om je te leren piano spelen, maar ook om je muzikale inzicht, creativiteit en zelfvertrouwen te ontwikkelen. I offer lessons exclusively dedicated to jazz singing, focusing on interpretation, exploring the jazz repertoire, and music theory applied to jazz. These sessions are for anyone wishing to immerse themselves in the world of jazz, from beginners to intermediate levels, as well as those who wish to prepare for conservatory entrance auditions. - Jazz Style and Interpretation: Work on jazz phrasing, swing, rhythm and text placement on the great jazz standards. - Jazz Improvisation and Scat: Introduction to jazz vocal improvisation and development of melodic invention. - Applied Jazz Theory and Ear Training: Reading jazz chord charts, understanding jazz harmony and working on listening skills. - Essential vocal technique: Basic concepts (breathing, posture) addressed in a practical way according to the needs of the jazz piece being studied. The goal is to provide concrete tools to sing the jazz repertoire independently, develop your own stylistic identity or succeed in your conservatory entrance exams.
