With over 10 years of teaching experience, I offer engaging and personalized guitar and ukulele lessons for students of all ages and skill levels. I have taught at Portland Music Company and Class Academy in Portland, Oregon, helping students discover their unique musical voices. Growing up with my father, Mark Shark—renowned educator and author of The Tao of Tunings—I developed a deep passion for music education and a love of alternate tunings. I specialize in folk and fingerpicking styles, but I also enjoy exploring rock, jazz, and other genres with my students. My background includes studies with flamenco guitarist Julia Banzi while at Reed College, which has enriched my approach to technique and musical expression. Whether you’re picking up an instrument for the first time or refining your skills, my lessons are designed to be fun, supportive, and tailored to your goals. I focus on building strong fundamentals while encouraging creativity, so every student can find joy and confidence in playing music.
