In my classes, I interactively enable students to learn about chess openings, tactics, endgames, strategy, and problem-solving techniques. Learning chess improves patience, using finite resources to achieve a goal, being aware of, and curbing, your opponent's strategy, and ability to maintain concentration. I want to enable students to gain a lifetime of enjoyment of chess, as I have done.

Chess is a very popular game, played regularly by approximately 6 million people in the UK. It enables you to learn how to use limited resources to achieve a set goal, anticipate the future results of present actions, and foresee the future in your mind's eye. It also has a social aspect - post-mortems with opponents and interaction with the tutor and also colleagues in a group setting all help to develop and improve your skills. I gear my lessons to students' individual needs and, where possible, encourage group interaction. You will be able to observe your own progress, irrespective of your current level of play or future ambition. I have been an active chessplayer for more than 50 years, and hope that you will gain as much pleasure and enjoyment, and make as many friends through playing chess, as I have done.
