I work with the theory that a language is best learned by putting it into practice. For this reason, in addition to teaching the basics, I focus my classes on interaction and speaking. We'll read, speak, debate, and watch videos to learn to speak the language like a native, understanding the grammatical constructions but learning the technical terms instinctively, like the locals.
