Personally I believe learning a new language can be both fun and tricky at times and it would be more effective if it was handled methodologically by a language expert. it is said "the best method is no method" which means everyone has his own way and as a language teacher it would best answer when you saw your learner's requirements specifically. Some may find books better while the others have more fun with films and videos when learning. So I believe it is best to see your learners through the learning process for better adoption, also depending on the purpose of learning a language, the focus can shift from one skill to the others. as one's require might be to improve his vocabulary skill, strengthening listening can be essential for the other. I mainly work with students and professionals in technical fields who are interested in refining their English writing and speaking skills. I also speak fluent Dutch, as well as some Spanish and French, so I'm familiar with common English mistakes and understand what's causing them.
