Graduated with a CUM LAUDE distinction and great Honours from a master's program in Global Archaeology at Leiden University, where I achieved an 8.6/10 for my thesis on "Human Brain Evolution." This research develops a theory combining archaeology, biology and neurology, and reveals how ancient populations' brain development are influenced by environmental factors and material objects. My educational background includes a Pre-master program in Archaeology at Leiden University, graduated with an 8.2/10, and a Bachelor's degree in History of Art and Archaeology, graduated with Honours. These programs have equipped me with strong analytical, synthesizing, and research skills. I am actively seeking a position in archaeology, heritage management, museums, or other cultural institutions that will allow me to consolidate and further develop my research and synthesis skills. Combining my rigorous academic training with diverse hands-on experiences, I bring a well-rounded skill set and a passion for uncovering, understanding and sharing the knowledge of the past. Beyond academia, I excel in teamwork, adaptability, and multitasking, gained through leading group projects and managing extracurricular activities. Fluent in French and English (C1), with a working knowledge of Spanish, I find joy in tutoring students in various subjects. Additionally, I possess organizational skills from managing Phorin, an artist's platform.

How do you move from making individual artworks to developing a practice that feels genuinely your own? I am a professional visual artist with more than 30 years of international experience. In these individual mentoring sessions, I work with artists and creative people who want to develop a more personal artistic language, deepen their ideas, or reconnect with a practice that has become stuck or uncertain. Rather than teaching a particular style or giving you formulas to follow, we look closely at what already interests you: recurring images, materials, questions, experiences, contradictions and ways of thinking. From there, we explore how these elements can become part of a stronger and more individual body of work. Our sessions may involve discussion of your current work, experimentation, sketchbooks, writing, research, contemporary art and art history, as well as artists, writers and thinkers relevant to the questions emerging from your practice. We can work on questions such as: What makes your work yours? Which ideas are worth pursuing? How can you develop a concept without simply illustrating it? How can research become part of the work? How do you recognise and move beyond habits, imitation or creative blocks? This mentoring is suitable for people who want more than technical instruction and are interested in developing an independent, thoughtful and sustainable creative practice. Sessions are available in English or Portuguese and are shaped around each person's interests, work and creative process.

“ Gemma was a wonderful teacher. Her and I walked around Florence while she was simultaneously teaching me Italian. Her easy going and positive attitude made learning fun while also being very substantial. Gemma is super patient, and after the second day I could construct longer, more complicated sentences. I had mentioned some struggles I have had within schooling where I struggled with pronouns and prepositions, and by the first day I could do it easy no problem due to her explanations being very good. Overall I Gemma is a very good tutor and I highly recommend her. ”

“ Iris is very nice and supportive, who can give good advices and inspiration, not to mention the great amount of real technical tricks too. ”

“ Marie is a great teacher! She is very flexible with time slots and locations! So far, I have learned a great deal from her! ”
