About Me

Since 1992 I have been working as an independent guitar teacher at Musiclab.

I started playing the guitar from about the age of ten. Before that I occasionally played piano and recorder. In my youth I played in many bands, in which I played solo as well as accompanying (electric) guitar. I also master the classical and western guitar with the corresponding repertoire. My passion is creating and creating music. So I like to work with programs like 'Logic Pro X' and the like. I have written my own repertoire with pieces in different styles. I mainly do this in the hobby atmosphere, but you can always contact me for any musical inspirations.

I graduated from the Utrecht Conservatory in 1987. I completed my studies with master classes with Abel Carlevaro. He had a fresh approach to guitar technique.

My approach

Playing the guitar is fun for me. You don't need to be able to play well to get a lot of pleasure from the instrument. We are going to make the road to mastery as fun as possible. I like to chop well-known songs into bite-sized exercises, in order to get to the end goal. That's what my lessons are focused on, I want to show and hear in a structured and enthusiastic way that the guitar is a simple instrument with unprecedented possibilities. Let’s begin your musical journey! Perhaps this is the first time you are playing an instrument? Or you are picking it up having played it years ago. Perhaps you have a dream of where or what you would like to play...or want to improve specific skills to simply enjoy playing more.

My aim is to create a path with you (or your child), to discover and develop ways to achieve your own musical goals.

I offer 30-minute instrumental lessons – these are aimed at beginner students to build stamina, posture and basic playing techniques.
You can combine this with an additional 30 minutes of musicianship, this is for children to build a solid foundation of musical skills –including rhythm, note reading and pitch, composition, tempo and more. Group lessons are possible for beginner players, these can be a fun and motivating way of learning together for students, however these would be regularly reviewed to ensure learning needs of each student are met.

I would recommend 60-minute lessons for intermediate student/adult students – this is to work on more complex musical skills, exercises and pieces.

About me...
I have worked in instrument music education at schools, academies and privately for the last 12 years, whilst playing professionally as a freelance violin/viola player and conductor with orchestras, musicals and in community music settings in England. I thoroughly enjoy teaching, and base my approach on the needs of the student, using experience in different schools of music teaching - including traditional classical Suzuki and Kodaly principles to more modern day improvisation focussed educators such as Christian Howes and Bobby McFerrin.
