Living as an expat and learning several languages have helped me having sympathy with my students. Motivation, feeling relaxed and setting realistic targets, in the beginning, are usually the first thing to go.

As for my formal education, I studied Economics, International Relations, Western Philosophy, and American language and literature at the university (MA and BA). And after my 40 years old, I learned classical Arabic and Persian and started to study Islamic spirituality at the doctorate level. I taught English at Prep. school at Istanbul Technical University and Yeditepe University and am retired. Ever since I could remember I have been a teacher. Now I only teach Turkish privately and translate classical novels from English to Turkish. I translated 12 books from English to Turkish.

I teach Turkish that is tailored for each student. Each student is unique for me and I know that every student has her/his own way of learning.
If you are a beginner I give a short lecture about the history of Turkish and its characteristics and help you find your way in this very logical, consistent and elegant language. You understand that Turkish is different but that does not necessarily mean difficulty.

To have students learn the language cannot be provided with cliche and trite means. Without having sense of humor and without knowing the importance the acquisition of vocabulary and reading skills, how would it be possible to learn it? Grammar is such a thing which does not necessarily mean everything. In fact, in a balanced way it can be built up. Reading should be done compatible with learners level. Specifically, After you have read one page in any book, if there are more than 5 words, it posits that your level is not suitable to read and maintain. English learning is like a factory. Raw metarials which are listening and reading and after being processed them, they come up with an output such as writing and speaking.

In speaking section, acquiring words and practice are must. But it will be more beneficial if they are great mixture of grammar and vocabulary harmonically.
