About Me

My workshops are 20 mins from Haywards Heath, Lewes, Burgess Hill, Forest Row or Uckfield.

Working from my garden studio in Newick, I'm inspired by the beauty of the natural world around me here in Sussex because I'm so close to the South Downs National Park, Ashdown Forest and the Sussex coast's seaside towns and chalk cliff-lined beaches, and I love watching the changing seasons.

Originally from Brighton, I went to Eastbourne College of Art in the late 1980’s and then graduated from Brighton University in Illustration (BA Hons) in 1990. I briefly freelanced for magazine publishers, and then worked in the print and stationery industry for about 15 years before I returned to painting in 2013 when my youngest daughter began pre-school...and I've been painting ever since.

Sharing my expertise to students is very rewarding and something I first realised being part of Chalk Gallery in Lewes, as one of the first artist-led galleries which is known for nurturing artistic talent in Sussex area. Helping others find enjoyment in their own creativity and being part of their journey and all its breakthroughs is very satisfying.

My favourite medium is Indian Inks; it's an ancient water-based medium, lightfast and permanent, quite similar to watercolours, and it gives my work its powerful, sparkling colours and perfect for an experimental, intuitive style like mine.

Education

BA (Hons) Illustration/Graphic Design at Brighton University (formerly Polytechnic) 1990.
Previously attended Eastbourne College of Art and Design B/TEC for a 2-year foundation course, which was an invaluable introduction to all the art disciplines before I decided that the Brighton Illustration BA course was the right choice for me.

I run collage and painting workshops to village art groups, school age children and art clubs around Sussex and I am DBS checked.
