Lessons are shaped around relevant questions and topics, including identity, culture, technology, media, sustainability, current affairs and the choices facing young people today.
Students build confidence in speaking and discussion, improve their listening and reading skills, and learn to write with greater clarity and purpose. They practise explaining ideas, giving presentations, taking part in debates, expressing opinions thoughtfully and adapting their language for different audiences and situations.

About Me
I’m Sam, an experienced English teacher and IB educator based in Sofia, Bulgaria. I began teaching in 2010 and have spent more than a decade helping students from different countries and backgrounds use English with greater confidence, accuracy and independence.
Alongside private lessons, I work in international education as an MYP and IB Coordinator. My teaching is shaped by the IB approach: learning should be purposeful, connected to the wider world and built around the learner, not a worksheet that has somehow survived since 1998.
I plan lessons around your goals, level and interests. You may want English for work, university, travel, an exam, a move abroad, or simply to feel less hesitant when speaking. We can focus on conversation, pronunciation, grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, academic English or professional communication. The important bit is that lessons have a clear purpose and develop over time, so you can see what you are improving and why.
I use interesting, real materials where possible: articles, short films, podcasts, literature, current affairs and topics connected to culture, technology, sustainability, identity and life in an increasingly international world. This gives you language you can actually use, while making lessons more engaging than the usual routine of filling in blanks about somebody called Brian going to the shops.
You will receive clear feedback, practical strategies and plenty of opportunities to speak. I am supportive and patient, but I will also challenge you to move beyond safe, familiar English and express yourself more precisely. My aim is not simply to help you get through an exercise or memorise a list of words. It is to help you communicate ideas, take part confidently in conversations and use English as a genuine tool for work, study and everyday life.

We practise speaking, listening, reading, writing, viewing and presenting, while building useful vocabulary, clearer pronunciation and secure grammar along the way.
The class draws on the inquiry-led spirit of the IB Primary Years Programme and offers a gentle bridge towards the Middle Years Programme. Children are encouraged to become confident communicators, curious inquirers, thoughtful thinkers and open-minded learners. They learn to ask good questions, express ideas clearly, collaborate with others and reflect on how they are improving.
