About Me

I am a 56 year old American living in Belgium for 2 years now. I have been a bassist since the age of 14 and I have toured and recorded from 16 years of age. I joined Columbus, Ohio (USA) punk rock band Screaming Urge at age 15 and started using the stage name "Myke Rock" and I still use the name to this very day. I have been in reggae, blues, rock and other bands over my career.

I quit school at 15 to record and tour with a band. I later (in my late 20s) went to adult classes and received my GED, equivalent to a High School Diploma.

I am a singer-bassist from Mali with international experience with Rokia Traoré, Ben Zabo and Afrikän Protoköl. I mainly play African music (Desert blues, Afro-beat, Mandingue, the Congolese Seben, etc.) but also other genres such as blues, funk, pop and free-jazz.

But do you really need theory on bass? 😅 What I can teach you are (right) hand techniques, speed with one, two, or three fingers, canter/triplets, some slap and plucking techniques, and more.
