You have to learn some vocabulary and some grammar, of course, but learning culture and how to use grammar and vocabulary within the culture to be memorable, express kindness, change minds or uplift others is where you’ll find the "pot of gold at the end of the rainbow."

I’ve been teaching all levels and ages for over 15 years. Kids, adults, Doctors, Lawyers, Moms and Dads.

I’m looking for some students who want to take their English to the next level. Broaden their understanding and feel confident learning new English FROM the cultures that use English.

About Me

I am kind, patient, curious and generally happy. I love what I do and enjoy living in Sapporo to the fullest. I love American culture, from the 1940s to the 2000s, (as well as that of the UK) and enjoy sharing it with students to give them a fuller experience in learning English.

I have lots of hobbies including music, billiards, food, woodworking, motorcycling, traveling, politics, current events, BBQs and entertaining friends and family.

Experience / Qualifications

- I have worked as an English Teacher in Japan for almost 20 years (since 2006): at conversation schools, High Schools and Universities in Hokkaido.
- I have run my own English school since 2013. I have taught all ages; from nursery school classes to senior citizen classes with students in their 70s.
- Before 2006, in the US: - I worked in the advertising business for about a decade. - I volunteered teaching English and civics to immigrants in Philadelphia. - I taught photography to kids.

I taught French at a British school for one year. Then I used to be an English teacher for 25 years at a French school in France.
I am a Frenchman, I have the CPE (Certificate of Proficiency in English). I do not have any French but a nice British accent.

I can help you in improving your oral skills / editing / proofreading works (English / French), translation works (English / French).
I can also help you as far as TOEFL / TOEIC is concerned. I know how to deal with this exam.

The aim of the lessons is to improve your pronunciation, grammar, spelling as well as getting to know the English culture.

Public speaking is a skill that allows you to navigate through many public settings such as class/work presentations, conferences, debates, sales, networking, negotiations and ceremonial speeches. It can be an essential tool to turn everyday scenarios into opportunities, whether business or personal.
I would have gone from being a shy, quiet individual to a speaker on the podium; that was a transformation that took practice and personal development. Now I can speak in any public situation, as I have been on various podiums, panels at events, competitions, conferences and meetings.
In this course you will:
• Tackle the fears of speaking in front of an audience and acquire the confidence necessary to do so
• Learn about the different types of public speakers, and the techniques heavily used by each
• Go through exercises that will assist in confidence, pitch and pacing
• Learn and practice techniques created, inspired and reinforced by Dale Carnegie to improve preparation and delivery
• Create your own five-minute speech with assistance and guidance.

Business English: I use the Market Leader series of books which have great exercises to practice conversation in actual and Zoom meetings, presentations, interviews and specific business areas such as sales, management, finance and marketing. There are practice conversations, vocabulary, grammar, great conversation subjects as well as 'role play' which is very effective if not fun!
