Learn how to become a DJ with Vinyl Records, Ibiza

DJs have become the new Rock Stars, ironically, because of digital DJ technology.

The 'art' of DJing began by taking two vinyl records and mixing them together. Sounds easy, but before you can start you need two records to mix. As the vinyl format is coming back and young aspiring DJs are becoming more interested in having a collection of physical records, they face the same challenges every historic DJ faced.

In this class, I will explain everything there is to know about vinyl DJing, from the shop counter to the platter... the shelf to the dance floor. Where to buy and how to buy the best; how to store and care for your collection; the layout of vinyl; navigating and playing a turntable; understanding the audio properties of phono; beat matching and equalisation; DJing technique and style.

In this class I will pass on over 25 years of DJing experience, and possibly inspire you to become a record collector and DJ.

About Me
Hello Apprentus students,

My name is Ian. I'm 43 years old, I've lived and worked in Ibiza for 16 years as a DJ, event production manager and consultant. I was born and educated in London, and spent 8 years at Dulwich College where, amongst other subjects, I studied French, Latin and Spanish. I then graduated from The University of Kent with a BSc in Social Psychology, after which I became a teacher. Throughout that time, I built a reputation as a DJ, which resulted in me becoming an event producer and consultant.

My parents are Irish and I spent most of my school holidays in Ireland, but we also holidayed in Greece, France and the Balearics, which is why I feel at home in the Mediterranean. I have worked in many of Ibiza's language academies, teaching groups and individuals of all ages and competencies.

I have a deep knowledge of grammar in English and Spanish, but if I were to have a teaching 'style', you could call it 'flexible.' My ethos is that language is based on confidence in personal expression. I believe that all of my students have the intelligence to know how they want to express themselves, my job is to help them figure out how they can get better at doing that in a new language, English.
