About Me
Jernej was born on 13/11/2001 in Ljubljana, Slovenia. He started his music career at the Ljubljana Waldorf School in the class of Prof. Žiga Fabbro, where he completed six years of music education. From 2013 to 2016, he was a member of the SOS Junior Orchestra and toured Bosnia, Serbia and Slovenia. After having studied saxophone for four years, he continued his music education in 2014 by having private classes with master Professor Lenart Krečič. Due to his exceptional desire to play jazz music, he enrolled in the jazz department of the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet and passed the entrance exams as the best candidate in his generation. In 2016/17 he was among the recipients of the award for the best nine-graders of Ljubljana primary schools for their achievements in the field of culture. In 2017, he began his studies of saxophone with Prof. Primož Fleischman. Jernej was invited to join the school Big Band already as a freshman and continued to perform with it throughout his high school years. In 2018, he was invited to an exchange in Finland (Jyväskylä) as part of the Music Exchange network and spent two weeks in the class of Prof. Makku Rinta-Pollari. He performed with the afro/jazz and bossa band and received the highest possible mark for his performance. In 2020, he auditioned to play with The Big Band RTV Slovenia, and performed with them as a soloist. During his studies at the Ljubljana Conservatory of Music and Ballet, Jernej attended several master classes and workshops led by world-class mentors such as Julian Argüelles, Melissa Aldana, Chris Speed, Tim Green, George Garzone, Seamus Blake, Ben Van Gelder, Russel Hall, Emmet Cohen, Gregory Hutchinson, Jason Moran, and others.
During his studies in Ljubljana, he was also a substitute teacher at Waldorf primary music school.
In year 2021, Jernej successfully passed entrance exams for universities throughout Europe (including Graz KUG, Wien MUK, The Hague…).
He is currently studying with leading dutch jazz saxophone player Tineke Postma. And dutch saxophone legend Ben Van Den Dungen.
