I would be happy to provide students with a comprehensive knowledge about the structure and function of nucleic acids and proteins in cells, processes of genome maintenance and expression (replication, recombination, transcription, translation); to define mutation and explain DNA repair, the content of the nuclear genome and definition of the terms gene, genome, exon, intron, gene families, transposons; to explain the regulation of genome expression in procaryotes and eucaryotes; to define the term epigenome and explain epigenetic regulation; to explain the basics of genomic studies and other omics.
The following forensic genetics topics are covered: DNA polymorphisms of importance in forensic analyses; history of forensic DNA analysis; DNA isolation and quantification methods, methods based on PCR for the analysis of autosomal STR loci; single source DNA profiles and mixtures and their interpretation; lineage markers: STR loci linked to the Y chromosome and mitochondrial DNA; application of single nucleotide polymorphisms in forensic analyses; biogeographical ancestry, massively parallel sequencing in forensic analysis.

About Me
I have knowledge about analyses of mutations associated with neurological and neuromuscular diseases, establishment of protocols for molecular genetic diagnostic of various inherited diseases, identification of mutations, tracking of inheritance, correlation with phenotype. Further, in forensic analyses of human and non-human DNA and kinship analysis, STR analyses of autosomal, X chromosomal and Y chromosomal loci, sequencing of mitochondrial DNA and haplogroup analyses, genetic genealogy. As DNA expert witness I am well experienced in analyses of casework samples and proficient in forensic data interpretation and statistics in forensic DNA analyses: mixed samples and kinship analyses, as well as in analyses of challenging samples: bones, teeth, contact traces and identification of different animal and plant species.
