About Me
I am a private tutor with over 4000 hours of tutoring experience. Before becoming a tutor I studied undergraduate and masters level at The University of Cambridge reading Natural Sciences. I have worked as a research scientist and software developer before becoming a full time tutor.
I have helped students achieve top grades in exams, gain full scholarships to independent schools and offers to top universities.
My teaching style is very flexible but usually I share the lesson time between teaching and examples questions. The teaching is very conversational, with the student and tutor exchanging information and asking questions equally. When tackling examples questions, again this is shared between me and the student. The questions are both topic-specific and general exam practice questions.
Testimonials:
A-LEVEL MATHS STUDENT, LEEDS (ACHIEVED AN A GRADE)
"Jake was exactly what I was looking for. Helping me with my AS resit and A2 maths content, I went from a C at AS, to finally achieving an A at A Level (including 98 UMS in M1, a topic which used to reduce me to tears). He gave me much needed confidence in my ability and advice for coping with my exam stress. Jake is extremely amiable and I looked forward to every lesson. I never felt talked down to or made to feel stupid if I made a mistake (something I had experienced with tutors in the past). Hence, I always felt comfortable with him. Jake always had the ability to explain new topics, and ones I was struggling with, in a way I could understand. Some of my teachers’ explanations at school never seemed to quite click with me, but Jake’s explanations always made sense and stuck straight away. I most definitely recommend Jake as a tutor. Jake is a brilliant tutor and also happens to be a lovely person."
SAM BROCKETT(A-LEVEL MATHS AND PHYSICS - A* ACHIEVED)
"Thank you so much for all the teaching and support you have given me over the past few months! I feel my understanding of my subjects has massively improved and I'm a lot more confident going into my exams now! I started off in Feb 18 getting D grades and now I am getting A grades. Fantastic tutor "
GCSE MATHS AND SCIENCE PARENT
"Jake is an exceptional tutor who I would fully recommend. He has motivated and supported my daughter through the last year of her GCSEs in science and maths and made her a more confident student with a 'can do' attitude. He seemed to understand where Emily had difficulties and focused on areas which he knew would help her. He has a thorough knowledge of the specifications of the exam boards she was taking and so could gear her tuition based on this. She even said the other day that she quite likes maths exams as they are like problem solving and are fun. I never thought I'd hear her say that. Thank you Jake."
