Private Tutoring in Physics, Chemistry, and Python Programming for University and High School Students
From 46.51 C$ /h
I assist with learning university and high school level physics, chemistry, and programming across a range of topics, leveraging my 6 years of university teaching experience to ensure you understand the core of the concepts. I believe in an approach that focuses on ensuring you understand not just what the answer to a problem is but also why it is correct and how to get to it.
Physics topics include: special and general relativity, atomic physics, linear and rotational kinematics, optics, and electro-magnetics
Chemistry topics include: organic and inorganic chemistry, analytical chemistry, and materials science
Programming is taught in Python and includes functional and objective programming as well as runtime analysis
All of the topics available with me are topics I have already tutored or taught as a lecturer at first, second, or third year university levels.

About Me
I am a teacher who believes in lead by example tutoring. I start with a question from the student - perhaps a problem in their textbook, or perhaps a general question of concepts - and then using this I use examples to extend the breadth and depth of the concept and their understanding. This means preparation of material on my side beforehand to ensure I understand what the student needs and to ensure I am prepared with multiple techniques to provide explanation.
No student learns the same and I appreciate when a student informs me that they aren't quite following what I'm saying. This is a crucial part of the discussion that needs to take place in learning, because at the core of all learning is when we ask questions and figure out for ourselves how we understand things. This often results in an "aha!" moment of clarity when a concept clicks with a student and it is these moments that make my job worth it. These moments may take a while to arrive at and I take no issue with that. Sometimes it takes time for our brains to think through ideas and learn, and I myself am no stranger to the benefit that time can have on learning new concepts. Even when students understand the concepts, I appreciate and encourage them to ask questions, as it helps reinforce their own learning and knowledge of concepts.

Education
I have a Masters of Applied Sciences in Computational Materials Science from the University of Toronto and a Bachelors of Science in Materials Science from the University of Waterloo, where I graduated with Dean's Graduation Honours.
Experience / Qualifications
I began teaching at the university level in just the second year of my undergraduate degree due to my strong intellect and people skills. I started as a teaching assistant in chemistry and then quickly moved into physics and computer science. I eventually assisted with course delivery full-time during 2 work placements in my undergraduate degree, where I prepared and delivered lectures and tutorials, as well as developed and graded exams.
Across my degrees I taught 6 distinct university courses, with many of them taught multiple times. My return to teach some courses a second time stands as a testament to my skill at teaching. On multiple occasions I was nominated for, and on one occasion I received, an award for my excellence as a teaching assistant.
