PRIMARY PGCE-OUTSTANDING- BATH SPA UNIVERSITY
During my PGCE, I developed further, my passion for making a difference to the lives of children. I loved every second of my placements in KS1 and KS2. Being able to see the children happy and making progress both in and outside of the classroom was extremely rewarding. I knew I wanted to help children in my care achieve their full potential and more. It was here my love of phonics and early reading began. This led to lots of research into early years from birth to five.

ENGLISH LITERATURE AND EDUCATION-2.1 (BA HONS) BATH SPA UNIVERSITY
During my degree I developed vital skills of analysis, communication and collaboration. I managed projects, worked alongside peers evaluating options and responding to briefs. I built up a high level of understanding about the beliefs, values and principles of education. I analysed educational processes and their cultural, social, political and historical contexts, and gain perspectives on economic relationships, globalization, international education, and equality and equity in education. I completed my dissertation focusing on the different ways of learning and the difference between girls, boys learning and special educational needs.

CLASS TEACHER/ DSL/ LITERACY LEAD, STALBRIDGE PRIMARY SCHOOL, DORSET
I began my work at Stalbridge in reception class. I continued to work in this class for the past 9 years before moving to year 2. The early years curriculum and ethos is now part of me! I know it like the back of my hand and how to get the best the children and support them completely. Then moving to year 2 I was able to take my skills from reception with me and incorporate these into teaching the national curriculum with amazing results. I became EYFS, phonics and literacy leader as well as becoming a member of the senior leadership team. Being part of this team meant that was able to support and motivate my team as well as making decisions and thinking outside the box to day for the greater good of the staff and children. Being Deputy safeguarding lead and a mentor to other teachers allowed me to develop my leadership role further across all classes from reception up to year 6.

I began my first teaching role here in the reception class. Having never taught reception before I was initially nervous. I soon found that I had no reason to be and that my passion and excitement came from working with these little people and seeing them thrive. I built my knowledge throughout the year on the Early year’s curriculum as well as other courses such as speech and language support, pediatric first aid and safeguarding. I worked within a large team and learnt a lot through conversations with other staff and observations. I enjoyed going into work every day and producing engaging displays and the environments within my classroom, linking these to the children’s interests and their next steps in their progression. I adapted my outside area to allow a free flow space that promoted creativity, awe and wonder amongst the children. They learnt to take risks and become confident, capable learners with skills they could transfer between activities in and outside of school. My success of the year was built on the grounds of the brilliant relationships I had made with both the children and their parents. Getting to know them so well allowed me to really tailor my teaching to ensure progress academically as well as support each and every Childs’s welfare throughout the year.
