About Me
Emma tutors Art History to Degree level and Mathematics to A-level, as well as supporting students approaching entrance processes at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities across Art History, Archaeology, Anthropology, HSPS, PPE and and History. She also offers English as a Foreign Language.
She has a Masters (distinction) History of Art from Birkbeck, University of London, and a BA (Hons) Mathematics from Emmanuel College Cambridge, and is currently researching for an interdisciplinary degree in Art's intersection with Popular Culture in the inter-war period.
After graduating from Cambridge in Maths in 2005, Emma had asuccessful career in data and financial services building products and leading teams from early-stage fintechs to global enterprises. Alongside tutoring in Mathematics, Common Entrance and Science, she obtained and MA History of Art with Distinction in 2024 and in 2025 began a PhD researching inter-war British Art at the Courtauld Institute. She also works as an independent consultant and Mentor supporting Small and Medium sized businesses with their strategy and growth, with a specialism in building product-led ways of working. Previously at Barclays she was the Senior Director for Onboarding, Current Accounts and Money Management with a focus on young people and families. Alongside tutoring, she is a voluntary business mentor on the government Help to Grow scheme.
Emma is passionate about making both the practice of Art History and the study of Maths relevant to daily life. She believes strongly in the importance of financial literacy, something she wishes she had learned more about when young. Equally, she recognises how understanding the plurality of arts' histories and their connections to socio-cultural experience is essential to reflecting critically on how we live more equitable, creative and fulfilling lives today.
She is equally passionate about her work supporting students approaching the daunting degree application process, especially at Oxbridge and Russell Group universities, and prides herself in enabling them to develop the confidence to think critically and argue constructively in both written and verbal phases.
She also wants to share the joy of learning something new for its own sake, and the delight that comes when a particular concept suddenly makes sense.
