Maths improvement for KS2 to KS4 to enhance pupil skill and confidence
From 82 C$ /h
I offer to tutor Maths students for KS2, KS3 and KS4 (GCSE) including 11+ and 13+ levels.
I have a friendly and patient attitude.
I am happy to work with students of different capabilities..
I seek to tutor the young person so that any obstacles to their understanding are overcome by clear explanations that they can readily grasp..
The areas of the syllabus that require tutoring will be confirmed in agreement with the parent and student.
I have worked 28 years as an engineer in a consultancy. My day-to-day work was computationally intensive. I continued my Maths studies into my Bachelors degree and Doctorate.

About Me
I am a degree qualified engineer (PhD – Engineering – Hydrodynamics, BEng. Naval Architect and Shipbuilding).
I have 28 years’ work experience with a variety of engineering consultancies (WS Atkins, Noble Denton, Global Maritime). I worked with people from all over the world and visited numerous countries during my work.
I continue to be fascinated by the numerical evaluation of ship motions in waves and comparison with reality.
I took Mathematics, Physics and Biology at A-level, and continued my mathematic education during my undergraduate and post-graduate degrees.
Award:
1. Yoshio Masuda Award, Sep 2017, EWTEC 2017. The prize was awarded for a selection of papers on the latest OPERA project findings from Northern Spain and presented at the 12th European Wave & Tidal Conference held in Cork, Ireland. The prize was awarded jointly to the 12 member organisations of the OPERA consortium.
2. Lloyd's Register of Shipping - Academic Scholarship, Oct 1985 to July 1988- Lloyd's Register of Shipping
3. North East Institute of Engineers and Shipbuilders - Academic Scholarship
Professional Associations
Royal Institution of Naval Architects, Oct 1985 – Present, Academic Scholarship - 1985 to 1988

Experience / Qualifications
Training Experience
My experience teaching children has shown me how important it is to capture their attention, maintain it and engage with them. Also, the importance in finding out where they are at in their understanding, identifying any blockages, and overcoming these with clear and helpful explanations that they can grasp.
Additionally, during my professional employment I had to train graduate engineers in numerous aspects of hydrodynamic and offshore engineering analysis. These analyses were numerically intensive. It was a necessity that the engineers understood clearly all the calculations and analyses so that a technically correct answer could be achieved as efficiently as possible. My efforts in ensuring good training for the graduate engineers were acknowledged by the engineers themselves, HR and management.
Volunteer Work with Children and Young People
I have done volunteer work in various contexts with children and young people since the age of 16 up to the present day.
All Souls Church (2004 to present) – 4 to 7 year olds, teaching a group (around 50 children) of 4 to 7 year olds, for short sessions of around 20 minutes of teaching and game. Then participate in smaller group activities (up to 15 children) of craft activity.
Assisted my daughter with 11+ studies in Mathematics (2018)
Summer Holiday Camp (1985) – residential for 13 to 18 year olds
Summer Holiday activity centre (1983) – local authority run – junior school age
