About Me
I am a linguist fascinated by learning languages. I speak fluently Russian, English, and Swedish, have some intermediate knowledge of Spanish, and basic skills in Norwegian, Icelandic, Finnish, and Danish. I lived for one year in Peru and learned Spanish there, and I can say that I fell in love with the cultures of Latin America. Now I'm starting to learn Dutch, because I live in the Netherlands, and before that I spent many years in Finland.
I started living abroad a long time ago, but I love Russian language and culture and I feel that I want to bring it with me anywhere I go and to show it to the world. In my classes I enjoy sharing different experiences about life in Russia, talking about traditions, customs and history of Russia, as well as literature. In addition to that I like to explore etymology of Russian vocabulary and discuss it with my students.
One of my students said once, that "language is like a city, made of buildings and districts, institutions and facilities, interconnected by streets and wires". Learning a language is not just learning some separate words and phrases, it is building the whole system of inner communications that language has with grammar, pronunciation and syntax. That is what I try to do during my classes - help my students to build understanding of the Russian language in its complex system while learning how to use it and not to be afraid to make mistakes.
