This class is open to students of all levels. Whether you are only starting to learn the wild-looking letters of the Cyrillic alphabet, or whether you are looking to practise your written and spoken Russian, I would be delighted to accompany you at any stage of your Russian-learning journey. For more advanced students, I would be happy to help you get to know one of the most defining aspects of the Russian language, namely its novels and poetry, which would be a great way to learn about the 'mysterious' Russian soul.

I believe that studying in three different countries have allowed me to try out and assess various approaches to education in general and teaching languages in particular - from the rigourous Russian system based on ensuring that the students will obtain exceptional spelling, grammar, syntax and punctuation skills, to the more relaxed yet more critical and analytical Western approach, focused on problem-solving and independent work.

You will get the benefit of a vast bank of techniques, methods and learning materials that I have developed and accumulated over the past year will be used in class to pique and maintain your interest. And since I was once a language student too, I would be able to share my personal tips and tricks with you to help you reach whatever goal you have set for yourself - be it being able to wow your friends and family by reciting a poem in the language of Dostoyevski, or impressing your future collegues with the thorough knowledge of Russian current affairs in their mother tongue!

Extra information

In preparation for the first lesson we will discuss your individual goals, and based on that we will produce a personalised lesson plan.

For online lessons you will need a computer with a microphone (web cam is optional) and an Internet access. Having a paperback dictionary is recommended, but not required.

For in-person lessons you will need writing materials of your choice, a dictionary and, if necessary, additional materials (textbook, printed out articles, books etc).

Hi All,

It seems that all too often teachers, especially at public schools, stick to conventional, but sadly somewhat outdated teaching methods, ignoring modern developments in foreign language and culture.

Although this sounds innocent enough, this may have serious consequences for a student. If one sincerely wants to learn a a language, they have most likely considered travelling or perhaps even moving to their target country for a while. However, upon arrival, they might find themselves extremely alienated, unable to connect fully with its residents, which is an absolute nightmare.

But not to worry - as someone who had gone through the 'transition' phase, from a 'foreigner' to a 'pal from Russia', I will strive to go beyond vocabulary exercises, grammar and boring texts, using them as a foundation to assist the student in exploring the multitude of 'faces' of a foreign language, thus ensuring your ability to make long-lasting connections with so beautifully different, yet stunnigly similar folks from other countries.

Can learning English be fun, insightful, productive and effective at the same time? I believe so!

Whatever your background or profession, deciding to learn a foreign language is a great way to add another dimension to your life and make your mind work in a new way. You become a (slightly) different person, since along with a new language, one learns to look at the world in a slightly different way. In doing so, I take students beyond ordinary textbooks and grammar books, since they are no more than guides to learning, not absolute authorities, and because to me language is a living, constantly evolving matter, which you must submerge yourself into in order to understand.

In addition to my unorthodox approach, what sets me apart is a collection of unique, language-related experiences, which translate into a good ability to understand nuances of the English language. A native Russian speaker, I have lived in the UK for over 5 years, went to a Scottish boarding school and have even completed a university degree in English. Russian may seem difficult at the first sight, but I will do my best to prove it is not so hard as it seems!

The class is suitable for all people (kids, students, adults) who would like to study Russian for various reasons. I always create a personal program for every student in order to satisfy different levels of Russian and adapt towards specific needs.

The focus is, of course, put on studying vocabulary, grammar and most importantly speaking. The student can already say some basics starting from the first class. As soon as some basics are learned, communication will be practiced in a creative ad customized way. Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.

Learning is easy, but unlearning bad habits is extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important to learn the right reflexes as early as possible.

My offer is aimed at both young people and adults who want to learn German or improve their knowledge without wasting time on nonsensical school methods.
