About Me
Hi there! I’m Kamaria. I am a recent college graduate. I graduated cum laude with a BA in Interdisciplinary Studies, with my courses focused mainly in business and writing. I have over 10 years experience as a tutor. Before going back to school full time, I worked at an afterschool program, a summer camp, holiday camps, and a tutoring center over the span of a decade. I worked primarily with elementary and middle school aged children, but also privately tutored high school aged children as well. I helped my students learn how to read and improve their comprehension skills. I also gave test prep and prepared them to take standardized tests. I helped them organize their research for papers and even gave guidance on college application essays. My time working at these organizations really cemented the importance of flexibility, empathy, and enthusiasm when teaching. Every pupil has a unique way of learning and needs to be encouraged and engaged in a way that best suits them. I find that one of the positives to personal tutoring is the opportunity that it provides to really focus on the individual needs of the student and how to best tailor a lesson plan and techniques to suit.
I have always really enjoyed helping children and teens realize their full potential and discover a love for something that they may not have particularly enjoyed before. I love to research things, even in my free time. I've always been an avid reader, but growing up I absolutely loathed writing. I was the type of kid (and teen) that would read a novel or article and spew out all the information verbally but would never have the interest or patience to write what I spoke. Through practice, however, I began seeing that I didn't need to see writing as the bane of my existence. I found hacks to help organize my thoughts and research and I really came to enjoy writing. I hope to be able to help others enjoy writing and improve on they skills; plus As and A+s can be a great ego boost!
