My classes are for students who want to get famiriazed with the fascinating world of Biology! As my Bachelor's studies covered the majority of the Biology fields, together we can explore all three domains of life, starting our journey from the molecular level, moving on to the cells -the smallest units of life- and, finally, ending up to the populations.
Looking forward to hear from you!

About Me
Hey there!

I am Xanthippi, a Greek M.Sc. student at Copenhagen Business School (CBS).
I have a B.Sc. in Biology, earned by National and Kapodistrian University of Athens. My Bachelor's studies covered a wide range of fields of this fascinating science. More specifically, I learned about Plant and Animal Physiology, Zoology, Genetics, Microbiology, Evolution, Molecular Biology and many others. This way, thoughout those years, I acquired a well-rounded picture of Biology.
After my studies in Athens, I wanted to find a way to apply my knowledge and produce tangible results. This is why I have freshly started a master's programme in Bioentrepreneurship, in Copenhagen.
Furthemore, it is the right time for me to start sharing my knowledge with other people who want to explore the field of Biology or delve a little bit deeper into it.
Through my experience as a Science Communicator, in Athens Science Festival and Researcher's Night, I discovered my love to communicate scientific topics with others!
I also confirmed my belief that the best way to convey a complex concept is through visual aids and real-life examples. Thus, these are the teaching techniques I will integrade into my classes.
Finally, I believe that, as with any human interaction, teaching should be carried out with the active contribution and active listening of both the instructor and the student.
I can't wait to meet my next eager-to-learn student.
Looking forward to hear from you!!

Xanthippi

I have a passion for science, especially life science. After having finished my master's degree in Biotechnology and working as a molecular oncology researcher for 3 years, I now wish to share my passion for this field with budding, curious minds.

In this class, based on the requirement of the student, I will focus on basic or advanced life science topics such as molecular biology, cell biology, biochemistry and bioanalytical techniques. If you are in school and need your basics covered, I can teach basic biology and chemistry in the simplest manner. I can understand these subjects can come off as quite dry to many students, but hopefully, my extreme enthusiasm in this field will change that for you. Hope to see you soon.

Hello! My name is Sanne (25) and I have a Master's degree in Biochemistry. I am currently a trainee teacher and am working on obtaining a first-degree teaching qualification in biology. I enjoy supporting students with the subject matter and sharing my enthusiasm for the STEM subjects. I have now helped more than 20 students with biology, chemistry, and mathematics.

During the tutoring sessions, we actively work together on assignments, and I help you learn to solve problems independently. In addition, it is important that you practice independently between lessons.

I offer support with:
- Clearing backlogs
- Specific chapters or topics that are difficult
- Preparation for school exams and central exams (vmbo, havo and vwo)
- VAVO, state examination, and CCVX tracks

I offer tutoring at my home in Groningen West, but tutoring at your home is also possible. I charge a travel allowance for this (see rates).

In the IGCSE and CIE (Cambridge International Education)curricula, Genetics is a part of Biology under the broader topics of inheritance and variation. It is covered in both IGCSE Biologyand AS/A Level Biology. Below is a breakdown of what you can expect in each:

IGCSE Biology (Cambridge - 0610/0970)
The topic of genetics is introduced under the following key areas:

1. Variation and Inheritance
- Genetic variation: Understanding differences caused by genetic and environmental factors.
- Inheritance:
- Definition of key terms: genes, alleles, dominant, recessive, homozygous, heterozygous, phenotype, genotype.
- Monohybrid inheritance (using Punnett squares to predict offspring ratios).
- Concepts of dominant and recessive traits.
- Structure of DNA:
- Basic structure of DNA (double helix) and its role in carrying genetic information.
- Mutations:
- Causes (e.g., radiation, chemicals) and effects of mutations on organisms.

2. Selective Breeding and Genetic Engineering (basic concepts):
- Selective breeding in animals and plants to produce desired traits.
- Introduction to genetic modification (GM), though details are limited in IGCSE.

---

CIE AS and A Level Biology (9700)
At the A Level, genetics is covered in greater depth. Key concepts include:

1. DNA and Protein Synthesis:
- Structure of DNA, RNA, and nucleotides.
- Transcription, translation, and protein synthesis.
- Genetic code and its universal nature.

2. Cell Division:
- Mitosis and meiosis.
- Significance of meiosis in genetic variation (crossing over, independent assortment).

3. Inheritance:
- Mendelian genetics: monohybrid and dihybrid crosses.
- Codominance and multiple alleles.
- Sex-linked inheritance (e.g., haemophilia, color blindness).
- Pedigree analysis.

4. Gene Technology:
- Recombinant DNA technology (genetic modification and cloning).
- Applications of genetic engineering in medicine and agriculture.

5. Mutations:
- Gene mutations and their effects.

Each student has their own way of understanding and reasoning; my role is to identify the one that will allow them to progress effectively.

During my studies, I had the opportunity to mentor a blind student in her biology courses for a year. This experience convinced me that effective teaching relies primarily on the teacher's ability to adapt to their student, and not the other way around.

The first session is devoted to an educational assessment:

* assessment of the student's level in the chosen subjects;
* identification of its strengths, its difficulties and its way of approaching scientific problems;
* discussion on its objectives in order to develop a personalized work program, presented to the student and, if necessary, to his or her parents or legal representative.

I offer courses from middle school up to Bac+5 level in cell and molecular biology as well as in biotechnology, and up to Bac+3 level in biochemistry, enzymology and biostatistics.
