From 46.51 C$ /h
Hello!
My name is Sofia, and I've been teaching languages for seven years.
I grew up in France and went to a bunch of multilingual schools, making me native in French and fluent in English.
My lessons are heavily focused on practicality. You will speak and listen to French from day one.
Grammar, use of language and sentence structure are still a part of the deal, but I focus on their functionality for the speaker.
This means that, unless you are very interested in learning all of French grammar, I will not go deep into grammar topics that don't require us to.
I provide:
=> Practical lessons, in order to get as much french out of you as possible!
=> A comprehensive study structure, designed according to your hardships and objectives.
=> Empowering lessons, in order for you to feel confortable to speak when you want to speak.
=> Ocasional themed lessons, to make classes dynamic and motivating.
=> Productive homework assignments, based on what your french speaking needs.
=> Exposition to the francophone world, in order to root for your imersion in the language.
A little bit about me:
Part of my teenage years were in Portugal, and growing up, I saw my peers having a hard time learning how to speak French and English.
With time, I understood that traditional language teaching methods rarely ever insist on speaking skills, so I decided to take action and built my entire method on filling up that gap.
I'm also an avid language learner, and I've been through it all:
=> The embarrassment of trying to speak to a local and not being understood in the least way;
=> The confusion of not knowing when to start
=> Feeling scared about making mistakes in my goal language and post-poning my learning because of that.
=> And all the hardships you can think of!!
Recently, I've reached my 100th happy student. I want to help another 100 of you.
Can you help me with that?

About Me
Hi! My name is Sofia, and I am a French and English teacher. I really enjoy learning languages, crochetting, producing music, and singing.
Currently, I am also a student like you, as I am learning how to sing and produce music, and I am learning Italian.
I know what it's like to be scared of speaking a new language and making a fool of yourself, not knowing where to start. So, I understand how and I want to help you.
I started teaching because I have been fluent in French and English since I was eight, and it felt like a comfortable and easy way to enter the working world.
However, over time, I realized that I love teaching.
I love realizing that I helped someone through their journey of self-development.
Because of that, I focus my lessons on empowering and making my students feel comfortable and confident speaking the language they are learning.
I like to teach students who:
=> are eager to learn
=> determined,
=> want to achieve results in months.
I enjoy intense teaching periods where the student and I work hard together to reach their French or English goals. Of course, the intensity depends on how much time the student has and how much of an investment they can make. But, in general, I like my classes to be productive, and I want the student to feel like the class made a difference that day.
I've been teaching languages for 7 years now. It started as a part-time job when I was in high school, tutoring students from middle and high school. With time, I realized that traditional teaching methods do not reach everyone, so I became determined to make my classes different.
In 2021, I started teaching French to adults, feeling there's a lack of offers for adults who want to learn languages in a practical way. In 2022, I launched my business, and by August of that year, teaching became my full-time job. In the past 14 months, I've helped nearly 100 people reach their goals in French and English, and I aspire to help a hundred more.
In October 2022, I tested my A1 French curriculum for group classes on a group of students for free. In February 2023, I began teaching my first A1 French course. Since then, I've launched my French A2, B1, and B2 courses.
Currently, I have students living in Belgium and moving to Switzerland after our learning journey.
I focus my classes on:
=> speaking practice- because you learn a language by speaking!
=> imersion in French/American culture and language.
=> teaching you how to learn autonomously, outside our class, so you learn the most you can outside of class too.
=> Use of language, the funcionality of grammar and sentence structure.
Grammar, language use, pronunciation, and listening are not ignored.
I always send homework to my students, tailored to what they need the most at the moment—whether it's grammar exercises, written expression, an opinion text on a video, or listening to a song.
When my students ask for a one-on-one lesson, I tailor it to their needs, including their interests or professional domains.
If my student goes to school, I keep up with what they're learning and try to enhance their knowledge with additional sources and learning methods.
I believe a student armed with multiple tools will have an easier time dealing with new themes.
As always, I focus on practice because the more you practice a language, the more intuitive it becomes, and the less you stress about grammar and rules.
My objective is to get people to feel confortable and confident while dealing with French and English.

Experience / Qualifications
I have a Cambridge Certificate that proves my English C1 level (I missed the C2 level mark by 2 points, and I took the exam as a formality)
My French level was evaluated as C1.2, by a recruiting agency which I teach French at.
I had not spoken French on an everyday basis for 8 years when I took the exam, so right now, I'm at a functioning C2.1 level.
