My methodology of teaching will is different depending on who I am teaching and their
needs. I, of course, discuss with the pupil and parent what they want to get out of my services
and create a realistic timeline of what to cover. Each session, I will prepare slides beforehand
and explain them thoroughly. I provide questions they can apply what they have learnt, some
of which I will talk through, the rest they attempt independently. This helps to identify gaps in
their knowledge to work on further. I will take breaks from content and revisit previous content
in order to in-still "spaced repetition" which has been proven to be extremely effective.
Additionally, I always help my student make a holistic timetable including all of their
commitments and studies, ensuring their workload is feasible for them. I have examples that I
can provide upon request. Periodically, I will check with my student how they are getting on
with this timetable and see if changes are needed. I like to ask if he or she has any homework
or questions they have and spend some time on that, ensuring the student is not
overburdened. Part of my discussion with the student and parent will be whether to assign
homework or not and if we agree to set homework, I select appropriate questions from my
assortment of resources which I will look through in the next session.
