About Me

I’m a warm, lively and patient teacher who forms great connections with my students! I would describe my teaching style as meticulous, dynamic, and fun. I listen closely to every word my students say so that I can focus on grammatical accuracy where needed or help develop fluency and confidence - it depends on each learner’s needs. My goal is to create a relaxed and supportive atmosphere where students feel motivated and confident to express themselves in English.

Education

I grew up in Stratford-upon-Avon, England, which inspired my lifelong passion for the works of Shakespeare. After successfully completing my B.A. (Hons.) in English, my university offered me a position on the condition that I first gain teaching experience. I therefore pursued the CELTA Teaching Certificate and moved to Portugal, where I discovered a genuine love for teaching — a role that kept me there for over ten years!

During my time in Portugal, I taught many children and teenagers and obtained the Young Learners Certificate, which provided valuable insights into child psychology and effective learning methodologies.

More recently, I have specialised in teaching Business English to adults, a field I find especially engaging. I regularly participate in professional development webinars and work with an established institution that supports foreign business students in achieving their language goals.

With over 25 years of teaching experience, I have had the privilege of working with learners of all ages and proficiency levels. My teaching portfolio includes preparing children for the Cambridge Young Learners (Starters, Movers, and Flyers) and Trinity GESE examinations; teenagers and adults for Cambridge B1 Preliminary (PET), B2 First (FCE), C1 Advanced (CAE), and C2 Proficiency exams; as well as IELTS preparation for business students. Learning a foreign language is not a linear process that consists of memorising a list of words, and speaking a foreign language is not an oral translation exercise.

There are two types of approaches to acquiring knowledge:

When asked what year follows 1999, you can immediately answer 2000 without having to think for a long time and, above all, without having memorised each number individually, starting with 1, 2, 3 ... You know that numbers are formed according to a certain pattern. With only ten digits, you can form an infinite number of numbers and always know which number comes next.

When it comes to the alphabet, words and sentences, it's more or less the same, but school pedagogy, school textbooks and regular lessons still follow the rote learning approach. In the lessons I propose, you will learn to use patterns because this is more efficient and faster.

Learning is easy, but unlearning bad habits is extremely difficult. This makes it all the more important to learn the right reflexes as early as possible.
