About Me
Teaching French is my profession. Since moving to Brussels, I have taught French, mainly conversation, general or professional, to groups and individuals of all backgrounds and levels, both publicly and privately.
I have learned several languages, which allows me to put myself in my students' shoes and understand their difficulties. This experience allows me to determine, when I ask for an explanation and my student gets stuck, whether they are able to express it in another, simpler way, depending on their level. Common mistakes give rise to practical exercises that are easy to improvise, and I always make sure that grammar is seen in the most immediately applicable way.
I am very interested in people, and what they tell me mainly feeds into the lessons, although I also use texts, images and videos to train comprehension and get them to speak ‘outside their comfort zone’, i.e. outside their direct experience.
I enjoy working with students who ask questions and suggest topics, and who spontaneously share anecdotes, but I am also used to working with more reserved individuals who need to be guided and encouraged.
I particularly emphasise the importance of listening comprehension, especially understanding questions and idiomatic expressions (such as "avoir l'air" etc.), which helps to build confidence.

Experience / Qualifications
– I have been working for 25 years with private companies (Colruyt, VEOLIA, etc.), NGOs (OXFAM, Médecins sans Frontières, etc.) and public institutions (Federal Public Service, Flemish ministries and parliament, National Bank of Belgium, etc.) through language schools in Brussels, teaching students from beginner to advanced levels.
– In most of the individual courses I have taught, the adults I have worked with have achieved their goal: ‘Now I'm no longer afraid to speak or make mistakes, and the people I talk to respond to me in French.’
– I have given advanced courses to teenagers of foreign origin (German, Korean, Italian, Dutch) .
– I also taught introductory literature courses at the University of Lyon during the summer.
– I gave written French lessons (dissertation) to SNCB (Belgian railways) staff.
