About Me
I've recently finished my undergraduate degree in music at the University of Oxford, where I was also the organ scholar at Trinity College. I'm predicted a First Class degree, and achieved A-star grades for A-levels in Music, English and History. As a Musical Director I've been involved in several events where I'm teaching music to a group of people who are often unconfident or inexperienced in music. This has included an Opera Gala, where I coached teenage singers, some of who had never sung any opera before, toward putting on a concert over two nights of several operatic pieces. I conduct a chapel choir weekly, teaching around 30 singers new repertoire every week, supporting and leading them in note-learning, performance confidence, and practice technique. I have informally taught family friends in instrumental settings before, teaching one beginner the saxophone and another the piano. I have ABRSM qualifications in piano, clarinet and saxophone at diploma level. My degree included modules in Music Philosophy and Musical Analysis and Criticism, and I regularly read for pleasure, so I can confidently tutor in Music and English up to A-level, and on general essay and academic style across the humanities.
Having worked extensively with amateur musicians, I have formed the strong opinion that an approachable and friendly style is always the most rewarding, whilst maintaining a clear sense of what direction and goals you are pursuing at any one time, and never offering criticism without a supporting solution.
