Music Theory Class will take you from an absolute beginners level up through ABRSM levels, eventually to university level theory, and fil in any gaps that you may have or misunderstandings. We will use a variety of teaching and learning styles to engage students in the class and and interact with the course materials.
You should have video capabilities and expect to upload your work regularly for best results. Your goals and interests are taken into consideration and you are encouraged to do personal research and follow diverse interests along your musical journey.
The ability to play an instrument is an advantage but there are no pre-requisites for this class. Contact me with your specific interests; I'll be happy to help from my many years of experience in diverse settings.

About Me

Teaching is my vocation. I am a servant leader, humble but knowledgeable. If you hate experts, is it because of their arrogance? I will listen to your needs and suggest a direction. If you want to work with me, there are things that I'll suggest for your success, but a lot of choices too.
I am a Bible believing Christian and encourage mindfulness, self reflection in all my learners. I am committed to your success - perhaps even more so than you are (as I've found to my detriment in the past)! I have learned to set goals, and work towards them in incremental steps. The theory of everything tends to be really scary and music theory can be too. I am very keen to make music theory easy for everyone. For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you. It is simply finding out what is best for each person. Once we find the key we can unlock the problems that have puzzled you for ages.

Music theory needs to be more than a requirement, it needs to be the way to really appreciate the music you are playing. Certain aspects can also lead to additional practical skills such as improvisation which can be very useful as well as very enjoyable.

A typical lesson works on a mix of technique (posture, bow control, tone production), repertoire suited to your level and taste, and — if you want it — music theory and sight-reading. I'll set clear short-term goals with you each lesson and check in regularly on your progress, so you always know what you're working toward and why.
