Extra information
For children aged 4-6 it is important that a parent is present during the entire duration of the lesson.
WHEN CAN CHILDREN START PIANO LESSONS?
It’s never too early to start music education. However the type of learning will differ depending on the age of the student.
Children under the age of 4 can be exposed to music at home or through early childhood music classes. Music education at this stage is about interacting with music through play.
Children aged 4 to 6 can begin piano lessons, either individually or in a group, which act as a transition between early childhood learning and more formal instruction. Ideally, classes include game-like activities where children sing songs, chant rhythms, listen and move to music, and develop familiarity with the keyboard.
From the age of 7 onwards, piano lessons include more formal instruction. Children progress in a systematic way that develops their ability to listen, understand music, perform, improvise, read and write music. They develop the physical coordination for healthy piano technique, and learn how to express themselves freely through music!
Whatever age your child is, you can give your child the gift of music! Their enjoyment and appreciation of music can last a lifetime, no matter their aspirations.

About Me
I am a classical pianist and teacher. I help children and adults of all ages to develop foundational skills in music so they can become the pianists they want to be, and to express themselves freely at the piano. My experiences of learning the piano both as a child and as a returning adult have fueled my passion for understanding the most effective way to learn music, so we can play to our fullest ability, no matter our age.

Experience / Qualifications
I completed a two-year classical music program with a specialisation in piano at Birka Folkhögskola, in Jämtland, Sweden, as well as an additional year focused on piano pedagogy.
I previously completed examinations in piano and music theory through the Australian Music Examinations Board.
I've also taken over 14 months of private weekly lessons in the Taubman Approach to piano technique. This approach trains pianists to develop healthy playing habits so they can avoid (or recover) from injury and play with ease.
I actively research and participate in continuing professional training opportunities so that I can develop my skills and knowledge as a pianist and educator. My particular areas of interest are piano techniqe/healthy piano playing and musicianship skills.

If you are an adult who is new to playing the piano, taking the time to develop core musical skills in rhythm, pitch, and harmony is essential. It will make learning the piano more effortless and joyful! Sometimes we get so focused on learning to read music and playing what we see on the page that we forget to develop our skills in listening and understanding what we hear. When we develop a strong musical ear, we also develop our natural musicality and expressiveness.
In these lessons, you will learn short, simple folk songs at the piano and practise rhythm pitch and harmony through interactive exercises: chanting rhythms aloud, feeling the pulse of music in your body, singing melodies and harmonies. You will also learn to improvise using basic rhythm and pitch patterns. You will gradually build your skills to apply to more complex pieces at the piano. This is a fun and satisfying way to learn, knowing that you are improving your musicianship skills with every lesson.
