I am a singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, graduate of Berklee College of Music (BM), and a lifetime student of traditional music.
I have been teaching music for 6 years, and I am passionate about fostering a love for music in my students instead of simply teaching by rote. A lot of teachers focus excessively on the instrument being taught, instead of focusing on the music.
An instrument is a tool for expressing music, and while a good technique is important, the real goal is learning how to apply the technique to express yourself. I tailor to my students’ individual tastes, using the music they love to teach them how to use the instrument.
At Berklee, I gained a strong knowledge of jazz harmony and was introduced to many music styles from around the world. I can teach Bluegrass, New Acoustic Music, Celtic Music, Folk Songs, Jazz, Jazz Manouche, Blues, Pop, and Rock.
In addition, I can use my songwriting expertise to help critique and develop your original music.

About Me
“Any old place I hang my hat is home sweet home to me.” This phrase is drifting line that shows up in a bunch of the old American folk and blues songs I hold closest to my heart -a traveler’s mantra of sorts.
As a Singer-Songwriter and mandolinist, my music is informed by traveling I did from a very young age because of my father’s work. Washington State, California, Hawaii, Japan, Bahrain, Belgium, The Netherlands – and that’s just a start. I still haven't lived in one place for more than two consecutive years.
I am drawn to folk music for its rawness, its realness, its lack of pretense, and its storytelling. I have seen how good music has the ability to change lives, bring solace and healing, and reframe peoples view of themselves or others. Equally inspired by centuries-old folk ballads and more contemporary songwriters like Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, and Gordon Lightfoot, I am on a mission to write and perform the music that I thinks needs to exist, but can’t find in the world.

Education
BM in Professional Music - Berklee College of Music
At Berklee I studied instrumental performance and songwriting (under the pro music umbrella). These are definitely my greatest strength areas. Berklee also has a strong core curriculum that emphasizes theory and ear training, so I am confident in my ability to teach those skills at a high level as well.
