In this course we will look at music composition, learning the basics of orchestration and using digital software to compose music, such as Sibelius and Dorico.

We will also cover a brief history of composition, look at the composers of the past and present and look at how they can influence us in composition today.

Part of the course will give you an opportunity to write your own music and get feedback on it.

If you’re interested in the technical side, I can teach you about Logic and how to move from the score to programming using virtual instruments within Logic.

I like to tailor the course to the Student so please say what parts you are interested in.

As a tutor, I want to bring the best out of the student I’m teaching, inspire them to learn more and be confident in the subject they’re learning about.

I am a very patient person who will always give time to the student and try and explain things in a different way if they’re not quite understanding a point I’m trying to explain.

Age and musical taste are not restrictive when in the program, you can with qualitative daily work (not quantitative) quickly observe your progress.

Hello! I've been teaching continuously for over 10 years, and I'd like to explain what you can expect from a class with me.

Personalized approach: The most important thing is to know what you want to achieve. I will tailor the lessons to your needs: playing for pleasure at home is not the same as preparing for entrance exams (although always with the same rigor). Your goals will influence the methodology, the organization of your studies, the repertoire, and so on.

Relaxed (but rigorous) environment: Once you've defined your goals, classes will be dynamic and pressure-free. Note! "Relaxed" doesn't mean undemanding; we'll just avoid military methods—especially given my personality and sense of humor.

Music, not just notes: My methods are very dynamic, with a special emphasis on hearing and musicality. No "read, play, and turn the page." I avoid approaches obsessed with reading sheet music without memorizing, listening, or understanding what is being played. I want you to own your performance and make artistic decisions. Warning! For some people there is only one way to tackle the unmentionable but I believe there are many different approaches and one of them will click with you.
