Ciao! I'm Ylenia, and if there are two things I love, it's talking with new people and sharing the beauty of the Italian language. I'm an outgoing, enthusiastic, and qualified teacher, and I believe that learning Italian should be an adventure, not a chore!

I earned a Bachelor's degree in Languages, Culture, and Societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa with a major in Korean in 2021 at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, Italy.

Experience / Qualifications

I hold the DITALS II certification from the University for Foreigners of Siena, an advanced qualification that assesses and certifies the theoretical and practical skills required to teach Italian as a foreign or second language. I am currently working as an Italian teacher at A Door to Italy, an Italian language school in Genoa, Italy, where I have been teaching since 2024. Previously, I worked at Un’Altra Storia, a cooperative in Genoa, from 2021 to 2022, where I taught Italian to immigrants, supporting their linguistic and cultural integration into Italian society. These experiences have strengthened my skills in language instruction, intercultural communication, and designing inclusive, learner-centered educational programs.

I teach for all levels, from very beginners to advanced speakers, passing through amateurs or simply curious of any age. I can also help with university exams and school works/assignments.
Being a pianist and a piano teacher, I already have lots of experience with teaching and pedagogical approach with the whole range of ages.

The lesson is intended to meet the student needs: the focus can be on the grammar, conversation or literature. In case of a middle-level speaker, the lesson will cover all four language's abilities: listening, speaking, writing and reading. My suggestion of a well planned lesson is, for any level, to divide it into two parts: grammar first and then conversation (covering all the abilities mentioned above).

If you wish to brush up your Italian, resume a past series of lessons, or simply start from scratch learning Italian, this is the right lesson for you! I like to personalize each class/course according to the needs and goals of my students. My classes are focused on improving the student's communication skills. At beginner and lower intermediate levels, I prefer using a text book/ student book in the first part of the class. I usually use "Nuovissimo Progetto Italiano" and "Arrivederci" by Edilingua, or "Nuovo Espresso" and "Dieci" by Alma Publishing. For the second part of the lesson, I create engaging contents using original videos, press articles, extracts from blogs and social media, literary texts. If the students do not feel comfortable using Italian from scratch, I can switch to English, German, or Dutch. The course fee includes the correction of home assignments.
