English literature- private lessons in analysis, essay writing and exam prep

My basic premise is that anything you can say, you should be able to write. My strengths are in thematic reading of the text, literary techniques and essay writing. I usually work with the student to help them build a strong understanding of the text, and its wider historical and social content, before helping them to understand its themes and key ideas. From there I work with my students to strengthen their writing (factual or creative) and building of their own ideas on paper. I use a variety of exercises and mediums (film, poetry, novels, rap etc) to achieve this.

As literature is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.

    About Me

My name is Jaye and I have been a private tutor for seven years, teaching over 100 students in Australia, the UK, India, Spain, Thailand, China and Turkey. In particular I have experience in exam preparation and essay writing. I have also worked and volunteered in the humanitarian sector for 10 years, focusing primarily on refugee and asylum seeker issues and education. I speak Spanish, advanced French and Portuguese and basic Turkish. In my spare time I love reading and salsa dancing.

Bachelors in International and Global Studies from USYD (majoring in government and Spanish)
Masters in NGO Management and Social Enterprise from UTS (distinction average)

    Experience / Qualifications

    7 years tutoring experience
10 years experience humanitarian sector (UN, Red Cross and Salvation Army)
    120 hour TEFL certificate
¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? I have been speaking Spanish for seven years and studied it as a minor in my Bachelor's degree. I have lived and volunteered in Spain and travel there regularly, aswell as read, speak and write in Spanish daily. Not only do I have a strong understanding of Spanish grammar and vocabulary and a deep love of the language but I also understand how to learn it, as it is my second of five languages. As I have done when teaching Spanish in the past, I'm able to understand the conceptual gaps and differences between the student's first language (particularly if it's Latin or Asian) and work with the student to jump over those hurdles towards greater comprehension. I use a communicative approach which focuses on building the student's fluency and confidence. Finally, I have a strong understanding of Spanish and Latin American culture and history, and so am able to use interesting and contextually relevant materials to keep lessons engaging and lively.
I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
This class is aimed to provide guidance and help for anyone studying political science, government or international relations. I aim to structure all my lessons to broaden my student's worldview, challenge their assumptions and test the logic of their arguments. I am able to bring a unique synthesis of perspectives to all my lessons to help my students to use political science, government and IR theories to analysis current global issues. I also have a strong background in essay writing and logic which I use to help test and strengthen the theses of their essays. As this is an ever-evolving field, I feel learning is very much a two-way process, and try to use dialogue, discussion and contextual materials and examples to build the student's understanding. I really enjoy this field and try to bring my enthusiasm, knowledge and experience to every class I teach.
I have deeply enjoyed Australian and European History since high school, where I received top marks, through university to the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with Australian history from European arrival, through Federation and the conflicts of the 21st century, through to present day. However am always trying to improve my knowledge of Indigenous history. I have also studied extensively Australia's global relationships over time, with countries such as the UK, the US and China. Regarding European History, I am familiar not only with the impact of wider trends such as the printing press, reformation, industrialization and colonization across history but also with the specific histories (and personalities that make them) of the UK, France, Germany, Russia and Spain. I have deeply enjoyed US History since high school, where I received top marks, through university andto the present, where I still read and learn history on a regular basis. I am most familiar with mainland history from US Independence to the present day, however am always trying to improve my knowledge about Native American history, and the territories. I have also studied extensively the impact of the US on the wider world and its relations with the global community. I believe it is important to teach history from a wide variety of perspectives. In recent years, I have particularly tried to focus on history retold from the perspective of those left out of the traditional view, which is really just anyone who isn't a white, upper-class, European male. This broader and more complex view of history leads to a more nuanced understanding of the past, particularly from a social perspective.

Preparing for, and Improving, College Composition and Reading
Despite advances in AI and other technologies, the core practice of excelling in college remains reading comprehension and essay writing. While these tools can act as a band-aid, they do not help students with foundational learning skills overall. With five years of experience in teaching college composition, I am aware of the gaps between high school and college literacy with which many students enter. My course will focus on filling such gaps to improve prospective and current students' overall reading and writing skills to aid in textbook comprehension and essay writing for any class they may attend. In attending my course, you will practice: - 1:1 help with essay edits and writing - Reading and critical engagement with excerpts from typical college material - Short writing drills to improve overall writing towards a college level - Line editing and peer review

Tips and Tricks for Sociology Essay Writing, Targeted to GCSE and AS/A Level Students.
I am eager to help young people feel confident when writing sociology essays. I will place an emphasis on deconstructing the questions students are given by encouraging them to reword the question to offer a different perspective on it. In addition, the main aim of a sociology essay is to convince the reader more and more of the argument you have claimed in the introduction. I want to help students do this by helping them follow the PEAL structure, i.e. Point, Evidence, Analysis, Link back to question. I have found this a very effective and coherent way of structuring an essay. I have studied Sociology for 7 years now, at AS/A Level, Undergraduate Level and now at MSc level at LSE. I was awarded First-Class Honours in my undergraduate as well as 'Best Dissertation of the year' by the School of Humanities and Social Sciences. I am seeking a potential career in academia so I truly feel passionate about engaging with the lesson plans on this platform and helping students feel confident in their essay writing.

French private lessons by university graduate in Letters
Holder of a Master's degree in Letters and endowed with a solid experience in private lessons, I provide French lessons for students wishing to: - consolidate their bases in grammar, spelling - improve their language skills (allophone students) - improve their speaking skills (conversation classes) -profect the written expression - prepare for ECR exams - prepare for the written examinations at the end of the studies (maturity, certificate of completion) - help with the writing of works of maturity (or other works of end of studies), of dissertation - work on argumentative texts - acquire a method to analyze literary texts - learn how to perform bibliographic research The course material is a Google Docs document that I create in which my explanations, possible links, exercises appear. By reading it regularly, progress will be faster. It can also be used in addition to other documents (files printed by school teachers and/or books) and has many advantages: automatic updating, downloadable on tablets and smartphones, simultaneous monitoring of what is writing. For help with writing: The objective is above all to acquire effective tools. The student will thus be able to learn to structure his ideas, argue coherently (and convincingly) and enrich his vocabulary. It is essential for me to have written work from the student between each lesson. For analyzes of oral literary texts: In order to optimize the time available (and to put ourselves in conditions closest to oral exams), we choose together an extract from a work that the student will have previously prepared before the lesson. This would take around 20 minutes at most, and ideally just a little before the meeting time. If necessary, I have the habit of taking a paragraph at random which would serve as a basis for analyzing a passage. For the corrections of end of studies work: so that the meeting with the student is at the most profitable, I ask him to send me his writings before the meeting. Apart from my presence with the student, any course involves a preparation time before and after the lesson, including the work that I correct. My goal is to design an individualized course, so I take the time to write detailed comments on corrected work or tips to ensure maximum success for everyone. For example, an editorial correction can easily be the subject of a detailed commentary of 4 typewritten pages. For adults (FLE): In order to optimally prepare the first ones, I take the initiative to inform myself in advance of their objectives / expectations. Whether to practice speaking in everyday life, the professional world or to practice oral presentations, I prepare either PPT or technical sheets in advance that I send by mail ( after booking on the website). The other alternative is to make a PV of the course that I send (or that I print). Giving importance to keeping a written record on the one hand to better memorize the topics covered, on the other hand to better assimilate the spelling. Of a general nature, a concrete situation that responds to the learner's needs is the starting point. From this situation, I address the essential grammatical points.
