Private lessons in Maths, Physics and English, as well as tutoring in techniques for taking test or exams
From 64 C$ /h
I specialise in tutoring Mathematics, the Sciences and English for all pre-university levels (including anything for the International Baccalaureate to the Federal and Cantonal 'Maturité' Systems).
In the case of Mathematics and the Sciences, the aim of the lessons will be to move beyond the simple application of memorised formulas to an actual in-depth understanding of the reasoning involved. I also offer many techniques which make mathematical and scientific reasoning easier, but also more enjoyable and interesting. If you often feel like you 'just can't do' or are 'just bad at' maths and sciences, then this is definitely the course for you!
In the case of English, as a Bilingual french and English speaker, I can offer in depth training towards proper pronunciation, grammar, spelling or any other area in which you may need assistance.

Extra information
In the case of Mathematics and the Sciences and in order to guarantee that lessons are as fruitful as possible, I will ask that you send me scanned copies of the theories and/or exercises which will covered about 2 days before each lesson.

About Me
Hello! My name is Ben (no need to try pronouncing my family name right!). I have been a tutor for over 10 years now and hope to become a teacher. I'm very friendly and patient: everyone needs to learn in their own way and at their own pace.
An unfortunate, but unavoidable, problem with the general education system is that it is impossible to tailor one teaching method to a classroom of twenty different students. This means that, particularly in mathematical fields, some students will be left feeling as if they cannot understand a given subject and will often become disinterested. In fact, that subject has simply not yet been presented to them in a way they can fully understand or find interesting.
My aim is to help compensate for this problem through one-on-one lessons. During each lesson, I will focus on finding the best way for you to learn. My speciality is teaching those students who are currently failing a given subject and helping them reach a level of understanding where they are comfortable taking tests or exams.

Education
I have a Master's and a Bachelor's Degree in Philosophy and Cognitive Science. One of my main interests during my studies was numerical cognition (broadly, how human beings think about and learn mathematics).
Experience / Qualifications
I have been a tutor for over 10 years. In this time, those students who were failing when lessons began were able to reach, at the very least, a passing average by the end of our time together.
